This weekend has been awesome. I think I got more than my daily dose of purple music thanks to this marathon
Last night, I got a free listen of "For You," an album I really hadn't considered getting because I heard it and his self-titled album sounded more like the next Stevie Wonder other than a new talent. Needless to say, it was no such thing. It was a true Prince original with a lot of nice surprises I never expected. [posted a short review of it among other things here, my Prince weblog: http://www.xanga.com/DreamyPopRoyalty ] I was looking most forward to the LoveSexy tribute and I finally got my wish to hear a live version of "Anna Stesia" played. I saw 2 hours of footage from one of his tourdates and it said to me that LoveSexy was an album I might like. I got it a couple of months later and fell in love with it. I had a feeling that the cover caused a lot of controversy and Alan Leeds brought up a few interesting points in that interview. How only Prince knew the true message of it (I have a couple ideas about the message myself) and it surprised me to hear how people didn't like the album because they thought Prince was pushing his spirituality on them. It didn't come off that way to me at all. When I heard the album, I was amazed by it. When I thought I'd heard it all, I got a closer look into his world. I didn't want to get the album previously because I'm not particularly religious and thought it'd be a Christian album. Clearly I was wrong and it was more accessible than I figured. The interviews with Alan Leeds and Dr.Fink were awesome and also hearing different people's first impressions of the album makes me wish I had grown up with Prince's music the way they did. I continue to grow as a lover of purple music every day and its been 18 months since I first became a part of this world. I'll be sure to keep tuning into the show on Wednesday nights to get my fix and learn as much about my favorite musician as I can. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong.
