a few years ago someone here on the org claimed that "The Question Of You" is directly lifted from a 50's tune!

Was anybody ever able to find out which song that 50s track is?
Or is the whole story just a myth?

Look at Christmas records. You can listen to all of the classic songs by a zillion artists and still enjoy every version. For example, I love Babyface's version of "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer."

If something has a similar sound...or an exact cover, let it be. How are people gonna compare music a thousand years from now? Similarities can be made everywhere.

Prince doesn't own the Pentatonic scale

"The Question of U" always reminded me of one of his own songs, "Under the Cherry Moon".

Many songs are similiar to other songs.There are only so many notes that musicians can play If a songwriter feels that another artist has stolen their idea,it's up to them to take appropriate action,but come on...everything in pop music is inspired by something that came before it.

"Erotic City" was clearly inspired by "White Horse"
"Cream" was inspired by Marc Bolans "Get I t On (Bang a gong)"

BUT

"Do Me Baby" for example has been lifted NOTE BY NOTE from Eddie Hazel.
(Check the intro of the song "Frantic Moment" if you dont belive me.)
I think thats VERY DIFFERENT from "to get inspired by something"


Dont get me wrong. I didnt start this thread to say Prince is a copy-kat or something like that. I'm just curious if there was a song that was the basis for "The Question Of You". (Like that "Gotta Be Your Man" song was clearly the "inspiration" for Prince's "Kiss).

He's a musical genius anyway imho But even a genius borrows ideas sometimes you know...

I Think P is musical genius he dont have to copy anyone elses song but he may get inspiration from something he hears from time to time.
