Prince To Release 3 Record Set!
Jon Parales Union Times September 17,2008

the office phone rings at noon yesterday.on the line is Jocelyn Anderson Black.
Ms.Black,as she is known in the industry, is doing promotions for a major record label here in LA.
Her newest client is none other than the purple imp himself,Prince!
Ms. Black informs me that Prince has just completed a brand new 3 record set and surprisingly invites me to come to her office to hear the album in it’s entirety.
There are a couple of conditions.no notes are to be taken,no recorder of any kind will be admitted and no song titles can be revealed in my review…WHEW! I have been reviewing albums since the late 1960’s and have never had demands like this hence i find the offer intriguing.fast foward a few hours later..
I arrive at Ms.Blacks office and am ushered in by 2 security guards who promptly check me for recorders, they find none.
After the “security check” i am offered up refreshments and a comfortable seat next to a hi def stereo system.
I am left alone in this room with the new Prince album(s) and i am stoked!
By the way, when i say album(s),that is precisely what i mean.laying on the desk next to the stereo are 3 plain white record sleeves each containing a record.
The only information listed on the actual vinyl says “Welcome 2 The Dawn”,i notice this slogan as Prince has been using it since the early 80s.
I carefully place record 1 on the turntable and drop the needle.
WOW!
there is an immediate explosion of funk/ rock that sounds like something George Clinton would have concocted circa 1970!
the 1st track lasts barely 2 minutes and mainly serves as an introduction,it is great.
there are 5 other tracks on side one and each have a very Princely feel.there are drum machines going berserk, screaming psychedelic guitars and of course those
falsetto voices all over the place.
Side 2 on the first record comprises only two tracks and sound as if they were recorded back to back with a simple line up of guitar, bass and drums, rock fans will play this side often!
Things take a dramatic turn with the second record and not in a predictable way.
The second record here will surely conjure up comparisons with the purple one’s 1985 album Around The World In A Day.
The 10 tracks on record two are languid,mid- tempo and psychedelic to the point of gibberish…maybe it will grow on me as it does contain some beautiful instrumentation such as mandolin, harpsichord and flutes…alot of flutes!
Now onto the grand finale, record three.
This is where Prince seemingly place’s his crown firmly atop his head and returns to a sound that his die -hard fans have awaited for since 1982.
record 3 contains sparse, minimal electro funk cut from the same cloth as his 1999 album.the entire 3rd record is brilliant and shows what this guy can do when not encumbered with being current or making hits.this stuff is ahead of it’s time all the while sounding familiar, not an easy task for most.
I have been informed that this set will be released on vinyl only and will be sold at retail stores such as Best Buy and Circuit City by years end.
the price $19.99
that’s our Prince, bless his purple heart.

As far as I can tell it was a new song played on that radio station, by Bria Valente, the protege Prince was hyping about a year ago. shrug

So actually nothing. lol

I'll play it first and tell you what it is later.
