i second the vote- the pengins win by a flap.....

Ifeel for you forgot about that one yeah tht was good, never heard D;Angelo's version though. There was a girl that covered Do Me baby and it was pretty good > That was a long time ago and I don't remember her name.

Do Me Baby - that was Melissa Morgan, although only time I've actually heard it was on the 50yr anniversary boat party, allegeldy it was a hit in the '80s?

I heard a terrible version of Peach in a cafe in Hampshire yesterday; it sounded a bit like Karaoke to me. Who was that, I've never heard it before??

Best one must be Chaka Khan or the Bangles!

I wish someone would do Belle of St Mark, that would be great with a girl band

Sinead's "Nothing Compares 2 U". eek Wow!

I love that song...its one of my favorites. That song reminds me of my younger days in grade school when I saw her on tv singing it and i was like, mom where is her hair??

That's funny!

Sinead's Nothing Compares 2 U (so good I can't suffer hearing Prince do it)
Cyndi's When U Were Mine (really captured the 'loser-esqueness' this song needs)
Chaka's I Feel For You (good times!)

I'd include The Bangles's Manic Monday, but that's not really a cover, since Prince never recorded it.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

- Agreed. But I like Chaka´s also. Billy Cobham´s version is nice, and different.

I'd include The Bangles's Manic Monday, but that's not really a cover, since Prince never recorded it.

Sinead's version totally surpasses anything Prince ever did with that song. It's definitely the best cover of a P song because it had the least to work with. The original version of the song was okay, but Sinead's version was an all time classic. I agree with all your other choices too. nod

Sinead O' Connor's version of Nothing Compares is rather good. It's amazing in a different way.

Robyn's cover of Jack U Off wasn't very fun at all though. Shame sad

I love Sineads NCTY, its the best Prince cover by far.
Stina Nordenstam did a cool cover of Purple Rain. She makes if sound VERY different though, and changes the meaning of the song.

There have been a number of covers done of Prince's music. I would like to know people's favorites and least favorites.

Phish did a good version of Purple Rain
Alicia Keys did a good version of How Come You Dont Call Me
Living Colour did a good version of 17 Days

Hated Mariah's version of The Beautiful Ones
Hated the late 90's version of "WHen Doves Cry" (cant remember who did it)
Never cared for Tom Jones version of Kiss

TLC version of If I Was Your Girlfriend was acceptable.

There are so many more.

The "Son of Prince" covers are so funky; he had to mute him! http://www.youtube.com/princeben7
