Interviewer- What's your favorite instrument? Prince-It's dirty.. I think I am going to have to watch UTCM again,I did'nt realize there was supposed to be a message,or something that you were supposed to have gotten from it. What was the message? People that come from different backrounds can fall in love? [Edited 9/14/08 22:45pm] [Edited 9/14/08 23:05pm] Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

Im guessing the vault has 500+ easy by now. looking for new sounds and wendy and Lisa told him to lock similar material away? shame they werent around for crystal ball, what was he thinking? walk with crooked shoes www.myspace/syblepurplelishous

I'm glad to put this up for you guys. I was happily surprised that someone put it up on Youtube, I just stumbled across it looking for something else. I heard it as a teen when it originally aired and was sooooo happy to hear it again. Listening to it with older ears, it's still a pretty good interview. I wish I could convey how great it was to have this guy on the radio in the 80s. The Midnight Funk Association was like going into a musical spaceship (his voice, the sound effects, and the music). If I'm not mistaken, Mojo was the first DJ to play Irresistible Bitch in it's entirety (all the other stations were cutting the song up so you couldn't hear "bitch") I find that so funny now because they let people say any stupid vulgar thing now days. Mojo was the man. The main reason I love such a variety of music to this day.
Here is a link to an old org thread for a Mojo Q&A session. http://prince.org/msg/7/133194?&pg=2 BTW there is some very interesting things on youtube...I'm surprised haven't been removed or silenced..... gotta look though. Here is something else I found talking about MJ, a lot of you may have seen this or have it in you collection. I never saw it before and thought it was cool. http://www.youtube.com/wa...3HSnkWaxxc

Prince: Stewardesses. But Mojo didn't hear him and thought he said, "It's dirty". I remember listening to this interview as it was actually happening. I was driving down the John C. Lodge freeway and happened to flip stations to 107.5 while the interview was in progress. I almost had an accident when I realized who Mojo was talking to!

No, Corporations started taking over and they had no place for maverick disk jockeys like Mojo. He made a brief comeback in the early 90s, but it wasn't the same.

Talk about a maverick--he ran into trouble because he started playing CLASSICAL music. The station managers weren't having that. One night, he played a bit of Mozart, I think. . .then a young lady called in and asked were there any Black classical composers. Mojo took it and ran with it and started devoting part of his night showcasing black classical composers. That was the beginning of the end for him. . .too bad.
