If you really wanna be a Prince fan you'd know they all are good, when I first started loving Prince I would go into a record shop and get any or everything with his name and picture on it because I liked him. You're never gonna live long enough or have enough money to get them all. I've been a fan for 30 years and still haven't gotten them ALL.

Uhmm.....Sort of.

Basically, different strokes for different folks. Sure, there is a group fan favorite Prince albums Dirty Mind, etc that people usually herald as "classic". However, everyone has different tastes, of course, so you might find that a less popular Prince album is your favorite. I am sure that someone out there loves Emancipation like someone loves Parade.

When it comes to Prince, he has a lot of different flavors to his stuff, so it's up to you what's "his best". People accuse those who dig things like New Power Soul as being purple koolaid drinkers. I say, even his "shit" albums are better than a lot of what is on the radio these days and that there is a bit of genius in every thing he does. He is of the caliber, of Miles, Bob Dylan, James Brown, and The Beatles. Even his more obscure stuff is interesting and worth seeking out.

That said, I'd get these next:

1980's: Dirty Mind, Controversy, Sign O' The Times

1990's: prince, The Gold Experience, Emancipation

2000's: Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth
