Prince Getting Personal The thread about never Prince opening up emotionally has kinda been hijacked, but I’d love to hear about anytime Prince has really opened up in front of his fans.
I was just listening to a performance of Sometimes it Snows in April from ONA Paris and he introduced the song like this: “Y’all know about love dontcha? Do you know about loss? Have you ever lost someone? If so, this song is for you.” I’ve always thought this was one of his most emotionally moving songs, but when I heard the intro there it sounded like he was thinking about his child – he sounded so sincere before and during the performance (and so did the crowd), it sent real shivers down my spine. An amazing moment. Anyone got any others? The only one I can think of is Forever in My Life from the SOTT video, where he walks away from the mike stand and seems to be crying under his hat – I’m pretty sure that was just after he split with Susannah. Over to you… All those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand...

Well I got a few...
During the first Pris Lovesexy show , he cried during Purple Rain... Also in Ghent he seemed to be teary during his emotional rendition of Gold Finally during his concert in frankfurt (ONA) hesaid that the crowd "almost makes him cry" because people was so high that night!!! "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always"

When I saw Prince on the JOTY tour, he made some barely-veiled references about the loss of his son - and at the Chicago ONA concert I attended, he made comments speaking to the loss of his parents - both times his comments were very tasteful, sad and respectful...then the show went on. I think the emotions come out through the instruments, especially guitar.

In copenhagen 25/10-02.
Prince played "sign of the times", at the place where he used to sing: we call him nate, if it´s a boy he sang we called him gregory; thats for sure. after that he played a guitar solo that was so filled with emotion and pain; though liberated and uplifting as only prince can do. He can surely express pain and hope in the same key; that is amoung a lot of other things; what is so special about him. Henrik.

In Rotterdam 11/2 P was actually so emotional after performing this song that he went into his small dressing room and when he came back he still appeared to be wiping the tears from his eyes. It might be about his child, it might also be about the loss of both parents within a few months of eachother, less than a year ago. When my mother died I wasn't myself for more than 2 years either... Eelco

I'm not sure what song Prince was about to play at this past June's Celebration but he mentioned to the guys about having a strand of their lover's hair in the bathroom. He was Personal then with us. I never saw him cry at any time though. I always felt he just didn't do it. I always wanted him to;if he really felt that way . You know Intense.

I almost got actual tears in my eyes reading that. Prince said, "we'll call him GREG..." not Gregory... He was refering to his trombonist, Greg Boyer, who soloed during that song. -SWANGclearstheair

Everytime I hear Prince play, I could tell he's got alot that he holds back it always comes out in his music, music is his way of talking and telling his story even when the lyrics are sometimes like a puzzel I give it up to him thought he's gone through alot over the past years loosing family and all just the thought alone is crazy my condolence goes out to him and his family. I'm just a junky for the sound.

I seriously don't know how he holds it in while performing cause I couldn't do it. He's Totally Professional and I truly Respect him for it. However I wish he would Indulge with me and will Never stop saying it until it Happens.

He did something similar in Manchester. But I'm sure it was Greg, not Gregory. Initially I thought it could've been about his son, but I've changed my mind. I think it was about Greg Boyer [This message was edited Wed Nov 20 14:53:43 PST 2002 by dewmass] -----------------------------------------
