Prince goes Ivy As I ripped open with silly-greedy curiosity the 'MIT Student Survival Kit', a box of 'free gifts and discounts on valuable products and services brought to you by Harvard Student Agencies, Inc' and leafed through the various ads and discounts from Au Bon Pain, California Pizza Kitchen, Mattress Discounters and Carmex lip balms, having first taken out the Fuze strawberry guava beverage, Tom's of Maine toothpaste, pack of Wise pop corn and Always hygienic pads, what did I behold in the midst of all this? None other than our dear P sending a little scented reminder about his 3221 perfume - a little purple card with his photo, and a patch to 'peel off and apply to your skin'.
Has anyone seen these little promo cards anywhere? I've been in the country [the US] for only a month so I don't know if they have been all over the place or if this is a one-off occurrence. In any case, suffice it to say that the 'Big Schools' here in little Cambridge were the last place I expected to see a sign of him, somehow... It made me smile too that he popped up in my MIT 'Survival' kit - I had just thought to myself in my first week here that now more than ever I will need his funky tunes to help me survive and make it through the madness that MIT can be...

which proves my point that it's very strange. I mean, he is known to pop up in unexpected places unexpectedly if you know what I mean. But here, the elite context makes me scratch my head.
Is it me or there is a hint of disparagement in his tone when he sings about 'a PhD in body-moving' in Musicology? as if he had mixed feelings about higher education - and I would believe especially at elite institutions... or is it just my imagination?.. Anyway, Prince in an MIT goodies box... we'll have seen everything! Tame said: I've never seen those.

I don't have the lyrics handy and no time to look online as I'm working [sorry!] but I think he says 'we' have a PhD in advanced body-moving.
I'm not sure if he is including himself here, actually as I don't have the exact lyrics under my eyes [or in my head], I'm not sure who he is talking about. If it's not meant to be disparaging, then there is at least some humor in it imo, I mean, look at the word 'advanced'. It's not only a PhD, it's an 'Advanced' one:) I really think he is making a statement on higher education here, although in which direction I'm not sure. syble said: Flo6 said: which proves my point that it's very strange. Thank you! Are you in Boston too?
Well, if it's a Prince fan who put that card in, that crushes in one go all my fantasies of him sending me a sign, or following me, just like he did when he came to Moscow last September, three weeks after I had sent him a card saying "Come to Moscow!" I guess I'm seeing too much into things:) ItaLiNCuTiE said: Flo6 said: As I ripped open with silly-greedy curiosity the 'MIT Student Survival Kit', a box of 'free gifts and discounts on valuable products and services brought to you by Harvard Student Agencies, Inc' and leafed through the various ads and discounts from Au Bon Pain, California Pizza Kitchen, Mattress Discounters and Carmex lip balms, having first taken out the Fuze strawberry guava beverage, Tom's of Maine toothpaste, pack of Wise pop corn and Always hygienic pads, what did I behold in the midst of all this?
