Interview with Oprah

Okay - probably because I am in the UK (or because I missed out on three years of the outside world in a student haze) - this interview that Prince did with Oprah Winfrey completely passed me by.

Seen a lot of pics of Mayte and him in their house floating around these pages which I assume are from this same interview and they look gorgeaus (ie on the Prince's Place of Slumber thread).

Can anyone who was paying attention at this particular time fill me in on the gossip?

that pic of P and Mayte is from a People magazine
feature on Prince.

The interview with Oprah is very good. He was the
only guest for the entire hour. It was part of his
promotional tour for "Emancipation".
They toured Paisley Park, he talked about previous
life experiences, etc.
Oprah also interviewed Mayte, but it seemed to me
that there was tension in the air...remember, this
is around the time that their son died.
Overall, a very good hour. See if you can get a copy
somewhere.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I have it on tape somewhere.

It was a very controlled interview. Oprah wasn't really asking any biting questions. It was more like an hour long commercial.

Theres even a scene with Oprah exercising on a stair machine, decked out in an Emancipation hat and t-shirt, proclaiming that this is her new workout music. It was quite funny.

Anyway, that´s prince.. fake or what, but that was prince on the telly...

and no, I wish I didn´t see it.. Prince and Oprah in the same room (togheter with a bunch of people who were more Oprah fans than prince fans), I guess that´s maybe not to funky combination...

but then, it was prince, it was quite funny anyway. You know, you hate to see it, but you love to see it anyway. nuts

best moment: when prince told oprah that therapy had recently uncovered that he had the equivalent of two people living inside of him, and they weren't sure which sex the other one was.

I loved it when Prince was on Oprah. I have it on videotape.

The article with Prince and Mayte was in an issue of InStyle magazine, which I also have. Very nice. smile

This was a very good hour show, Prince performed, teased the audience, was interviewed by oprah at PP. Even showed her how he put the heart beat of his child to music. He was very relaxed, He talked about being called names as a child because of his size. He said that he was called anything that was small and very mean things, She said you know people say that you are weird, and he said yes and it is true, if weird means different then they are right. And he was in top form. I enjoyed from beginning to end.
How you gonna get my back when you fronting.

Oh hell yea, that shit was hilarious! She was singing along w/ the chorus, all goofy & shit. The hat didn't fit, you could tell she'd never worn it a day in her life & she learned the chorus to Emancipation just before they rolled tape. Prince should have dug his heel in her toe! Lawd, such fakery... evillol

It was a very good show because he performed and we got to see quite a bit or Paisley Park, but I do agree that there seemed to be tension in the air. The baby had died only days before the interview was recorded. I can not believe that he could act so non-chalant about losing his only child, but he managed to do so. Mayte seemed distant and it looked as though she was holding back emotions. I know his personal life is none of our business, but I was very disappointed that he could lie so straight faced about the death of his only child. Kind of blew my mind actually.

don't know if they're on the web. The pic of Prince
and Mayte on their bed is from People mag. I don't
know which month or year, but i remember Jennifer Lopez
being on the cover, with the story of Prince buried DEEP
in the mag. Someone pointed it out to me, and i had to
buy it...now, to tear my house apart till i find that
damn thing...THANKS ALOT!! LOL biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

but could he lie so straight faced about the death then? When he said "it´s all ok..." (about the child, can´t remember the whole sentence), he never looked into the camera nor Oprah, that´s a pretty clear sign that something was wrong...

I would Never have been able to talk about the Child because if I were Mayte I would have started Crying. I don't know how either one of them could have done it without showing Emotion. I know it's Private and all but it's a very Sad and Painful Experience. But religious people sometimes Feel such things were Best and all. That may possibly be the way they got through it all. Yes,I do Believe this.

Prince wouldn't dare sit in Howard Stern's studio of sin... lol Although, ironically - I'd bet Prince and Howard think very alike! Prince would never admit it tho.
