What was the last video Prince released of a single? What year was it?
Do you think now that he is on his own, video single releases are a thing of the past? Do you think this is out of choice? Will it help or hinder his career? --- Prince has put out some unforgettable videos. I would imagine the cost of producing a good quality video is enormous...good director, etc. As much as I love the music, I feel with the case of Prince I still need the occasionaly visual - so for the rest of the world, without seeing the artist, do you think they would still buy the music?

If you're talking official video release for a single, that would be The Greatest Romance Ever Sold.
But he did release a video on the NPGMC for The Daisy Chain, which was sold as a CD-single, but never got airplay.

Was U Make My Sun Shine an "official" release? I know it was played on BET and/or VH1. That would have been in 2001.
"Do you think now that he is on his own, video single releases are a thing of the past?" Since Prince has said that he doesn't like to make videos, I don't hold out much hope that he'll do another one. It's never really been his stong suite anyway. "Do you think this is out of choice?" Yes. But keep in mind as well that he has divorced himself from "the machine" of the industry, so even if he puts out a video, he is probably not going to get much in the way of support from VH1 or MTV, so what's the point? They won't put it into heavy rotation. "Will it help or hinder his career?" In his current approach to releasing music directly to those who care enough to seek it out, I don't think it will hurt. We (meaning his core fan base) will buy the music regardless. If he wants to get mainstream recognition again, he would need a video in order to vie for attention. "Prince has put out some unforgettable videos. I would imagine the cost of producing a good quality video is enormous...good director, etc." True dat! And, if his output through the NPGMC last year in terms of videos is any indication, he does not feel that spending money on videos is worth his while. "As much as I love the music, I feel with the case of Prince I still need the occasionaly visual - so for the rest of the world, without seeing the artist, do you think they would still buy the music?" I love to get a visual of Prince as much as the next girl! But, no, I don't think in the current music promotion and distribution environment that the lemmings who inhabit the mass market will buy anything that the media hasn't told them to buy through a constant barrage of radio, tv and print promotion. If it ain't on the top 20 rotation list, spotlighted on Entertainment Tonight or TRL or on the front cover of People or Rolling Stone, folks ain't gonna look deeper to find it. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

I misunderstood what you were asking. I thought you meant what was the last video single he had. I think he only ever had 2- Gett Off and Sexy MF. But that's beside the point.

I wanted to somehow differentiate that I was interested in his music videos, as opposed to his movie or concert videos...guess music videos never came to mind.

The Greatest Romance Ever Sold was in 1999, & The Daisy Chain was in 2001 (released after U Make My Sun Shine).

Do you think now that he is on his own, video single releases are a thing of the past? They are a thing of the past. Do you think this is out of choice? I really don't think he has a choice. These days it seems you have to spend millions of dollars on a 4 to 5 minute spot of advertising, I don't think it would be in his best interest since he's not one of the hottest items in the industry anymore. It still works for Madonna *cough - overrated slut - ahem-- cough*. Will it help or hinder his career? I don't think it would hinder his career but IMO I don't think there would be any point. This is where Prince should be using his website to his advantage. I think he's the only artist left that doesn't link his videos (for free).
