WHERE IS ALL THE NEW MUSIC? From my understanding (if i'm wrong, correct me) the reason Prince fell out with Warner Bros, besides master ownership, was the fact that they kept him from releasing too much music for fear of oversaturating the industry. I was understanding that once he left WB, he'd release much more music than he has. Needless to say, I am DYING for a new Prince cd (a double cd-even better). What happened? Prince used the promise of loads of new & unreleased music to generate fan sympathy for his fight with WB. While it can be argued that immediately after he was released from his contract that he did release some interesting material (not to mention a bunch of crap, like "Tell Me How U Wanna Be Done" & "So Dark"), it since seems like he lied through his shit eating grin of teeth.

Since 1996, this: Emancipation (3CD) Kamasutra The Truth Crystal Ball (3CD) The Vault 1999: The New Master (EP) Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic The Rainbow Children One Night Alone One Night Alone / It Ain't Over (3CD) Xpectation C-Note NEWS The Chocolate Invasion The Slaughterhouse Musicology 3121 Planet Earth Not to mention all the downloads from NPGMC and other websites, the one off singles (SST, U Make My Sunshine, etc), EPs, remixes, productions for others (Chaka, GCS, NPG, Tamar...) I guess that's what's happened since 1996. More than 1 CD per year, so he did release more music.

Kamasutra & The Truth were part of the Crystal Ball set. The Vault/much of Crystal Ball were what the majority of fans were hoping for (without the dreck he used to pad them). And as for collaborations - GCS2000 & Come 2 My House didn't exactly set the music world on fire. Did Tamar's album ever even see the light of day? Most would sooner forget The New Master, NEWS & Xpectation. & CNOTE? It was a live recording made for an extremely limited release. Prince promised & didn't deliver. Many of the above releases came out in the same year & wee lumped together. Planet Earth, his last release, came out over a year ago & was forgotten by most people outside of this website almost immediately. If he wants to revive interest in his music, he needs to stop releasing boring, mid-level R&B junk & open the vaults to release the music as it was recorded when it was recorded - not tinkering with it to suit his changed beliefs, whether we're talking about religion or lousy production value.

I vote u as the most negative f**ker on this site. Do have anything else to do then complain and try to diminish what Prince does? U don't like his output. Great we get it. Prince has indeed released a ton of music since 1996. He is not responsible for you liking or disliking the music. He has zero ability to make u like anything.

The question is what has he put out since leaving WB. Regardless of your opinion of quality, that is the list of what's been released. Christian Zombie Vampires

Aww, you don't like the fact that I am not a lemming? Tough. You don't like the fact that while some of you can't see the shit he holds under your noses calling it roses & I appreciate a higher quality of work? Tough. Prince had a great run for the first several years of his career. He's still a good live performer most of the time. That's reason enough for me to be here. If it's not for you? Tough. I'd rather be negative than fooling myself.

No. The question is "Where is all the new music?" Some of us have better memories, as at various points, Prince claimed that when he was free of his "enslavement," he'd be releasing as many as 3 or 4 albums a year. Some of us remember talk of a Crystal Ball 2. Or a Roadhouse Garden. Or the 3 albums he advertised (with titles) as being made available to members of the NPGMC, which he instead changed to a sub par live album with too much material from a sub par studio album. Prince lied. Or his plan backfired. Either way, "where is all the new music?" is a legitimate question for those of us with a rational mind & reasonable expectations.

You must be a very hard-to-satisfy consumer in a restaurant. Your expectations should be based on comparison to other artists. I still say: There is no other musician putting out this much music on this quality standard. And there's no other musician who tried so many differnet ways and risked so much with his releases including instrumental albums, a piano album, an accoustic album, Jazz, raw live rock - whatever.
I don't like all of what he put out over the last 12 years. But I also didn't like all of what he released from 78-95. But compared to any other artists, he's still one of the most versatile and demanding musicians out there. Anyway: right now, it is time for a new release.

The question was 'where is all the new music?' the qualifier was 'since Prince left WB', the list of releases above illustrates we got new music, and it amounts to more than 1 CD per year. I don't personally remember these binding 'promises' Prince made, I remember a lot of hot air in the last year or two of Prince's time Warners, and a lot of advertised projects in the following couple of years, a lot more that didn't even get past a brief mention in an interview or on a flyer. I would've loved to see Roadhouse Garden get released, and CB2, even for it to become a regular thing (CB3,4,5 every couple of years, or use the NPGMC as an avenue for releasing this kind of material). But for whatever reason they didn't happen, and they've joined the ranks of other unreleased projects. All this was almost a decade ago, RG was 1999, CB2 was 2000. It's time to let go.

He did release a lot more when his site NPGMC was up, but that's history now. Everybody knows that Prince has these great ideas and makes promises but half of them never see the light of day. He has always been like that so I don't rely on much that comes out of his mouth.
