I really like it a lot - I think track-by-track, it's a sturdy album. It's a fun album of great pop songs. Plus I love Batdance biggrin

I love 'Electric Chair' and "Batdance". I thought 'The Future' was a great opener for the Nude Tour show I saw in the Birmingham NEC in June '90 for my first ever Prince show.

I don't see it as a prince album but I do like it. What it showed to me was how capable Prince was at writing to someone els's concept. if anything it showed how great his other albums were and that prince can do conventional when he wants to-that his musicality is his choice and not just gutteral instinct.

I like it.The music is loud and vital. It's a very energetic album and it really feels cinematic.

The highlights...
"The Future"
"Partyman"
"Vicki Waiting"
"Batdance"
"Lemon Crush"

When this album was released, many critics commented on how commerical it sounded.I don't think that's a bad thing.Prince needed a big, commercial comeback in the late 80s and he got it with this album.

Wrong single choices (as usual).

I think these songs should have been the singles,in this order:

***"Batdance"---it made sense to release this as the first single)
***"The Future"---Warners missed out on a golden opportunity. This pulsing, powerful song would have been an excellent follow-up single).
***""Trust"---This song and "Partyman" are the two songs that got the most exposure in the movie. However,I think this song is superior to "Partyman".It's extremely fast, with a stronger hook/chorus.Instead of releasing "Partyman" (a fun but less substantial song),this should have been a single.

That's three great singles right there.

I agree with your choices, and I'd add Vicki Waiting as #4 too. smile

It's one of my favorite CD's of Prince's. It's an underrated piece of work with great songs on it. With the exception of The Arms of Orion, I love all the songs on it. I just wish he had released Vicki Waiting and Trust as a single and video. The Batman soundtrack was a cool way to end the 1980's.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

IMO ,I think that Electric Chair should have followed Batdance as the second single and then Partyman as the third single with Scandlous as the B-side.

The album rocks .

its odd to me to hear people say that prince lost his edge on this lp...it loooks to me that songs like batdance and the future were ahead of their time...especially batdance.i also felt it was full of potential singles.why trust.electric chair and vicki waiting were not released is beyond me.
