Oooh... I always love this question I know I heard 1999, and I remember seeing When Doves Cry on TOTP and being fascinated and kind of mesmorised. but it was when I bought the 12" of Purple Rain, which I LOVED, but THEN heard God instrumental and vocal on the B side that I became a 'fan'! Or more like...that music just became part of my soul from that moment on, and it's why I'll be a 'fan' until the day I die. Oh, and when I heard him singing Purple Rain live for the first time last year, it took me back in a millisecond! to THAT girl, sitting on the floor of my grungy, horrible spooky flat I could SEE myself, I could see what I was wearing, how I felt listening to the music, everything around me, I was actually THERE again, so strange... time is a trick eh? And, I've just realised it's the 6th September!!! Time for a new thread... [Edited 9/6/08 3:11am]

I visited his homepage www.3121.com. I saw an amazing black page and heard wonderful music. From that moment on I was completely sold. "LOVE YOURSELF AS ALL PEOPLE"

I had heard soft n wet when i was a kid and didn't know exactly what he was saying but loved the voice and the beat. I too thought it was a girl singing. Sometime later I saw the vid for WUWTMSB and thought he was the most beautiful man I had ever seen. I heard The Time's Cool and instantly recognized that falsetto background voice - I was on board but not devoted. I bought the album for 1999 and saw the vid for Automatic and fell instantly in love and been in love eva since. That mutha changed how I looked at music and videos. He made me always expect more from artists rather than just be satisfied with any old shit they put out. Also, I went from liking ugly boys who were funny to fine ass boys who were sexy. TY Prince for raising my standards!
