Was Prince just Ahead of his Time with his Music and Ideas and Protegees? I do Believe Prince was Ahead of his time with what he was creating and he was Controversial and all back then cause Nobody was like him so now he would be considered Normal and no warning label would be issued on his work. So I do Believe he should try the Dirty Route again but ten fold and show em how it is Done. If he dare to! He does Know how to like nobody else. Fuck em All! What do you think? Maybe it just won't be anymore cause he feels like he has to Settle Down and stop being as wild as he used to be and all but Hell if I know why. Shelia E even said she was a different person back then but Damn who cares everybody still is Rocking Hard so why not acting Wild and All? Everybody was cool and down. I can't see the stuff slowing down Radically into Conservativeness and for what when once was a Rebel and Controversial? I'll Never Understand it! Should I? Well, I'm not slowing Down that's for damn sure! [This message was edited Mon Nov 18 23:45:46 PST 2002 by Natasha]

When Prince became popular in the 80s, he did alot of songs that were controversial. He wasn't afraid to express himself in a song. I saw an old clip to an interview of some lady that was in politics. I forgot her name, but the interview was done during the Purple Rain era, and she was talking about the album. She bought the album for her niece that was at the time too young to be listening to the track Darling Nikki. The lady in the interview just had a problem with Prince lyrics to the Darling Nikki song she felt the lyrics was disrespectful. So, when I view this topic and after watching that old interview clip back from 1984 he was a head of his time. I also feel the same way about Madonna she did songs with controversial issues just liked Prince, and was talked bad by some people for expressing her opinions. I admire Prince back then for being one of the first people not afraid to sing about sexuality, god, drugs and world issues.

The Idiot was Tipper Gore who thought he was so Obscene and started the parents thing against children with the labeling in legislature. VH-1 just had a show on it not long ago. Prince should give everyone the finger and go back to his Very Controversial self. Look at what is on the Radio now and in the movies Damn everything is Raunchy and dirty. Prince is the Best and he was Chastised and he wasn't Dirty. I think they were Unfair to such a Cool Down to earth Sort like Him . Hollywood sucks for their treatment of Him. He is Not about that nor does he have to B! He is a Mid western fellow and I respect Him so very much. He is an Artiste Extroidianire! Will anybody Ever Understand and appreciate him fully?

I agree to a certain extend. Prince was somewhat unusual in the 80s. But if he was born 10 years earlier and the 1970s truly was HIS decade, then Prince would have been one amongst many. Look at Sugarfoot from the Ohio Players. Look at George Clinton, Parliament, Funkadelic. Look at Graham Central Station, Sly and the Family Stone. There is many people who were waaay more daring than Prince. Same with his music. It was a very different experience in the 1980s among the cold newly rising pop culture. But in the 1970s he again would have been one under many artists with controversial and revolutionary ideas. so now he would be considered Normal and no warning label would be issued on his work. I dont think he could be considered normal. In the 1990s I agree Prince was lost, just following trends and not even delivering good imitations. But now he is truly outstanding. We are talking about an artist who succeeded to take the Funk into a new Millenium. His Funk truly sounds MODERN and he's the only artist who has achieved this. If you look at the "Rave" live video, you see a terrificly modern Funk experience, while people like James Brown, Kool & the Gang, EW&F, etc. still live of the success of the past and offer a rather nostalgic musical experience (nothing wrong with that, but Prince has been proven that he truly is a contemporary artist and no oldies act). And why should people be "warned"? Does Prince need to be lyrically dirty to get his music accross? If you had any clue about music you would find out that his music is more dirty than ever. So I do Believe he should try the Dirty Route again but ten fold and show em how it is Done. If he dare to! So you want him to be the person again that he was 20 years ago? how boring. Imagine you were 44 years old and people would want you to be the same person you were at age 20. He does Know how to like nobody else. Fuck em All! What do you think? The thing with artist from back in the day. If it wasn't broke don't fix it mentality was adhered too. And many artist didn't have the power that Prince had: Most record companies pick the songs you hear. If I say anything about the man he did not back down when the record company told him no in regards to his music. It's all about the music right. sorry if that was over your head...jump up and try to catch the point next time.

Isn't Prince the artist responsible for 'PARENTAL ADVISORY' stickers?
I thought this was because of Tipper Gore sticking her oar in.
