7 August - one year ago at the O2 - and MORE Pics! I HAD to start a thread .... I can't believe it's been a whole year since I first saw Prince at the O2 - one of the most INCREDIBLE nights of my life (and I've had a few - honestly!)
Here's the setlist - courtesy of someone at Housequake - thanks! Little red corvette Raspberry beret Never take the place of your man Alphabet street Sometimes it snows in april All of the above Prince solo on guitar Band come on Cream You got the look Musicology maceo blow your horn Freaks on this side Funky london Pass the peas Give it 2 me Babe Play that funky music- audience member singing feel for you Controversy Housequake Wonderful world piano medley somewhere here on earth Diamonds & Pearls beautiful ones how come you don't call condition of the heart do me baby I wanna be your lover If I Was your Girlfriend Black Sweat Kiss Purple Rain Let's Go Crazy Take Me With You Guitar So, who else was there? What are you memories of that night? For me, when he first came on, just HIM in the spotlight playing Little Red Corvette on that guitar I was completely in shock, it took me the whole of that part of the show just to digest that it was actually Prince, in real life, a few yards away from me, after all that time..... When he did Purple Rain, I didn't cry, I just honestly thought that I had actually died and gone to heaven... I was ecstatic, it was such a good version that night too, the crowd were doing the 'Oooh oooh's' but not so much as later shows, and it seemed really authentic, the solo was AMAZING!! I remember him popping back on stage during Maceo's 'Wonderful World' where one of the notes just went on FOREVER... and I mean FOREVER... and wiping his brow with a towel, grinning at the audience like he was really proud of him, and popping back down again. Then he appeared at the piano and did SHOE, which just hypnotised me... then The Beautiful Ones - well.... what can I say? During Funky White Boy, he went up behind a girl who was dancing (quite badly!!) and he was copying her, she kept trying to turn round to see what was going on, but he was so fast he just kept dodging from side to side, it was really funny! He also at one point just threw himself on the stage and shimmied along on his stomach for yards.... I couldn't believe my eyes, I was like 'HOW did he just do that?!' Well, I could go on and on and on.... but it was such a good show, he really amazed me, especially at just HOW HARD he WORKED the audience, I really didn't expect that, I thought he'd be 'aloof', and he wasn't at all, when Prince says 'Jump!' all you say is 'Yes Prince, how high?!!' If he'd told me to stand on my head, I would have!! he was funny, sweet and just INCREDIBLE! I want it to be a year ago..... I'm PRAYING he comes back to London for the book launch and does just ONE more Indigo night.... [Edited 8/13/08 15:24pm]

Wow, 2 feet! Lucky you! On the 6th Sept aftershow, I think I was about 2/3 yards away from him, that was cool though! I don't like being all squashed up at the front anyway What was that show on the 7th? Only the 4th show of the run, I think!

I took my two children to their first (but not their last) Prince concert.
Prince's piano performance that night was tremendous. (BTW Jeffiner, Mike 'Philly' was on sax for the 'Wonderful World' solo - but you can be forgiven, given the ecstatic state you were clearly in) ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Edited to spell langebleu's name correctly - very important [Edited 8/7/08 17:19pm]
