Personally I dont know that GoldExperience was best post LoveSexyalbum it really wasnt bad album but personally something about the style of it the naration and hip hop antics kinda wrecked it for me. I think I would rate LoveSymbol overall as slightly better album over Gold, even D&P and possibly even Graffiti Bridge I think are at least on par with Gold Experience. Dirty Mind: The album that defined Prince as an artist... new original sound, consistent musically and lyrically, I feel that this album is the album Prince was born to make. 
1999 & Purple Rain: both strike the perfect balance between accessibility and artistry. 
ATWIAD & Parade: I think he was trying to challenge listeners with these... in both he was exploring new sounds and ideas... very experimental... needs a few listening sessions to appreciate. SOTT: Unlike ATWIAD and Parade, here Prince tries to make "cool" and "hip" sounds... songs that are very creative but not that challenging (well, except for If I Was Your Girlfriend lol), greatest Prince album? Maybe most influential.

New Power Soul.
It set the bar for all albums after it, and dismissed all the albums before it as mere blueprints for the final floorplan! It's tight, cohesive, and funky. It doesn't take itself seriously, and yet evokes all sorts of emotions. It's the most underrated gem of our generation. Love | |

i'll agree that NPS is NO way the best album prince ever did, well simply cause it's NOT A PRINCE ALBUM ITS A NEW POWER GENERATION ALBUM
but TGE is up there with SOTT 4 sho  deal with it and it's better than any other album u mentionedman, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 | |

NewPower Soul? Please...
1) an NPG album with Prince as the lead vocalist and his picture on the cover, nothing more and 2) it doesn't quite feel like a Prince album In fact, I wondered why I even took a chance and bought it originally. The best ever... That title would have to go to the likes of 1999, The Gold Experience, Purple Rain (simply cuz that's THE Prince I know and love  defines his sound better than any other album), and Sign o' the Times.

Its all subjective I suppose depending what takes anyones fancy but
I would say for Prince NPS is fairly basic straightahead album nothing really groundbreaking or dynamic about it. There are some medicore to good tracks on it but nothing that really jumps out as being great, I would say best and most likeable tracks tracks are "Come on", and maybe "When you love somebody". I like this albumwhen Im in certain moods but its imo not amongst the classics it has afew moments but overall doesnt break any ground and considering many great Prince albums that went before in context its more of an average P album. Though I do hold "The Gold Experience" in high esteem, its one of my favorite albums by P. But my favorite...and damn this so hard to just choose one...it'll probably have to be Dirty Mind. "The One" is definitely the best on the album. As for your favorite, that's a good choice It surprised me when I first heard it. It's simplistic compared to his later material, but I get into it every now and then And its being simplistic is definitely a good thing because it just works.had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. "Prince enhanced" - yeah, good way to put it. The Gold Experience was definitely something different. There was about two years of hype leading up to the album's official release where Prince had talked about a new way of songwriting. For some reason, we thought he was going acoustic at the time. I'm still not sure what he meant, but The Gold Experience definitely stands out as one of Prince's better albums -- there are some real gems on it.

Purple Rain, SOTT, 1999.
To tell the truth everything between '79 and '88 was incredible. Even misfires like ATWIAD are amazing in their own weird way. TGE has three or four great songs on it, and a whole load of utter trash like 319. It also loses points for sabotaging TMBGITW with an unnecessary new arrangement. Oh, and NPS is the worst album in the history of music. The Gold Experience really could have done without We March. And the stilton keyboarsdd of ricky p. And the cowbells. Cuz without that it would be a definate contender. Even the essay in the booklet is cool.
Incidentially, We March - additional programming and production by...duh duh derr...Kirky J. Wall. Writing all over it. Nobody's mentioned The Rainbow Children yet? | |
