Your ideal Prince box set

What would it include? How many discs would it be? Would you divide the tracks up into eras chronologically or mix it up? Would you put on remixes, b-sides, outtakes etc.? For album tracks would you include the full versions or edits? Would you include a live disc? Would it go up to the present or cut off at the name change like The Hits/B-Sides did? New photo shoot or classic old shots? Who would do the liner notes? I'm working out a tracklist right now and I'll post it when I'm done. I already made a Hits 3/4, Best of Ballads and Best of prince. Maybe I'll include those lists too. What would yours be like?

I think most of us have most of his stuff already, so a box set would mean losing stuff.

Choosing between P songs can be like choosing between children. So my ideal P box set would just be loads and loads of unreleased stuff, perfect quality, from '78 to now.

Oh, and ONA live of course smile

Good point. But the Hits/B-Sides gave us something we didn't have before, edits and b-sides on cd. So I'm sure they could come up with something good. Maybe a box set of all the extended versions, extended b-sides and all the best remixes.

A 7CD box set (since Prince has a thing about the number 7)
Comprising of unreleased tracks, alternate versions, alternate mixes & demos, all presented in chronological order with extensive sleeve notes.

mmm well???

eye would love 2 have a 5 cd box set containing the following:

1 cd of pure funk 2 the bone.
2 cds worth of new/old unrealesed material (kind of like Crystal ball).
1 dvd of all prince videos.
and last but not least, my favourite: 1 dvd full of behind the scenes footage of paisley park recordings and performances on tour including a day in the life of prince.

a 40 page booklet containing a letter from prince 2 all his fans, lyrics and pictures we have never seen b4.

oh god imagine how good that would be 2 watch him work it in the studio!!!

anyway, we can all keep dreaming!!!.
If ure radio aint on the FUNK, then ure radio aint on!!!

Hmmm...I have to agree with Bosisfishpaw. Give a work that contains music I never hear. Ie, the Facedown remix, the P Control remix, Beautiful Strange sessions. I can make my own greatest hits cd.

Tron, do not get me started. I always talk about this when people bring it up.

I'll start here, it'll feature:

6 discs (at least),

All charting hits (no matter which chart they appeared on),

Some deep cuts (album tracks not released as singles),

NO edits,

Some remixes, b-sides, outtakes, live tracks, and demos,

Music in chronological order, in order to give the listener a better picture of Prince's growth from young buck to accomplished composer/musician/innovator/kook.eek NOT to be confused with chronological song order from each album,

Lyrics to every song in the box,

Photos from different eras of musical phases he went through,

Liner notes by people such as Nelson George and Alan Leeds (I'd have to think about others who would contribute),

The studios and recording dates of each song were recorded,

Old/new quotes from engineers/musicians who contributed, and Prince himself about the music,

Testimonials from some peers and contemporaries,

One new photo of the current Prince,

A DVD containing ...something...

The potential track listing would be time-intensive, since there is a ton of stuff that would be contained in it. I'd have to go over it for a while.

Ps, it wouldn't contain vomit-inducing muzak like "Arms of Orion."

Do not get me started, Tron!

ideal? changes all the time, but at the moment it would be either a complete Celebration '02 live set or a box of remasters from his first decade (78-88) with bonus outtakes. keep your b-sides for a Hits/Bsides re-release.

Yeah, a Madhouse box-set would be a good idea - and not impossible either!

Sounds like you're more than started Supernova! Hit me up with that tracklist.

And why leave off 'Arms of Orion'? I thought you wanted all charting hits.

wow! For me it would have to be stuff that he does over seas. He has one cut that comes from a German night spot and it kind of as bits from MadHouse 6 and a little We Can Funk with just him and the band. I would want alot of the bootleg stuff.

I couldn't possibly edit it down to any manageable number of discs. But I'd want:

All unreleased tracks that are fairly commonly in circulation, but properly mastered for optimal sound quality

CDs and DVD of complete concert performances, one from each tour,

Highlights of aftershows and Paisley Park performances.

Celebration highlights.

DVD of all award show performances.

DVD/CD of interviews including a new interview exploring Prince's perspective on his career, the creative process etc., but staying focused on the MUSIC and not on the politics and business of the music industry.

The documentary from TRC era.

All videos, released and unreleased.

Liner notes including all recording information, dates and any particular comments/thoughts from Prince and bandmembers/engirneers who were there at the time.

Pictures both old and new.

Complete lyrics.

How many discs do you suppose that would take?
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.
