Ignorance Is Easier... I remember when I knew nothing of the Prince outtakes, bootlegs, live variations, unreleased songs, B-sides and the like.
I looked forward to Prince releases and slowly purchased my way through the back catalogue. Then one day I found out there was all the other stuff mentioned at the top there and since this my life has been a frustrated, obsessional rollercoaster of torment, worry and unfulfilment. There's so much music. Sometimes I wish for the good old days when Doves would satisfy my purple itch and I'd put my Prince music back on the shelf and go to do something else. Hmmm...this club really has it's ups and downs. With every sun shower there's a little pain I guess. But DAMN I love Prince and all his funky music! I agree. A lot of the mistique and excitement are gone for me because we have too much information.

Prince sure makes us work hard doesn't he? That's why either you're obsessable or apathetic---not much in betwixt.

It never ends! First, you have a fancy for a particular song and you just happen to have a spare couple of bucks to buy the single. Then you get the itch!. Then you buy another single, then the album from which those singles came, then all the albums from that artist, then you go out of your way to find every B-side, extended version and remix available, then you get all the videos and DVDs, then you stumble across a bootleg and from there on it's hell! (well maybe not that bad!). I've been an obsessive person through all my life, so I'm used to it! Prince's music though is just too good to say no to, so in the end I never regret anything.
The most anoying thing about being a collector: Being told that the CD you want can only be ordered in from overseas and will cost you a fortune. After several months of avoiding the inevitable, you finally bite the bullet and order it, only to find it the next day after you've recieved it in a second hand shop for a quarter of the price you paid for it!!! All I know is that as long as he will release music, I will at least check it out. There's too much talent and potential in him to give up on him, even if you don't like a couple of albums.

I definitely have too much info, yet I can't stay away from this place which is where I get all my info! The mystique is gone somewhat (dude is still a riddle) but I still get pretty excited about my boy... I don't think anyone has ever gotten into his music & left completely. They may bitch & whine, walk a way but they don't go far. They're ALWAYS looking over their shoulder dying to run back for more...

I think we should relax and think of it as just fun and something to look forward too.
I just decided that It's sort of impossible to have everything Prince. I know a guy that has over 500 bootlegs. When could you ever listen to 500 bootlegs?

Even the disillusioned ones are lurking, waiting for the day he hits stride (for them) again. There's a soft spot there forever more once u've been hooked once, I swear it.

When I was growing up, my only CLUE that there was a new Prince album coming was some scribble on a chalkboard at the local record store!
I loved getting the single off the album first (with a great B-side), then getting the album on the FIRST day, and then just playing it until I memorized it completely. Now, the magic of a new Prince release is gone for me (at least partially). I'll listen to a few songs in their entirety, then skip through tracks -- eventually I'll listen to the whole CD that way.
