Using a genre V doing a genre

In my mind Prince has done both

I feel that when he uses and blends genres of music the results are inspired, but when he 'does' a genre, he often misses the mark.

1. Some classic examples of this are on the symbol album. I know many people don't like P or Tony M rappping, but I do think that it has been used well in some songs (Sexy MF for example).. but when they try straight rap song... ergh

2. Te amo corazon.. bad latin track

So: please give good/bad examples of prince doing V using different music styles

I'm more interested in the bad examples of 'use' (blends) and the good examples of 'doing'(pure)

(although, if this has people discussing the music in any way, I'm happy)

Good way of 'using' genres:

Sly Stone's 'Everyday people' is the model to 'Forever in my life'. I'm not so much prepared musically, but that example fits to me.

Bad way of 'using' genres:

The rap on 'Push'. Even if I see that's awful.... well, I dig and I like it anyway.
