Prince's Tightest and Funkiest Band inspired by another thread:
this isn't about a album but more of which band MEMBERS AS A UNIT could wreck a stage and b tighter than a mosquito's bottom my votes go 4: the sott/lovesexy band the npg of michael b, sonny t, mr hayes, tommy barberella (weak link imo) but still tight as hell the ona tour band of john blackwell, rhonda smith, renato neto, maceo, greg boyer man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Well, hate to see anybody run a thread just to prove a point to somebody's else's thang. Run it cuz YOU want to run it. Anyway, this has been brought up a few times that I've seen on here in the past. I'll say here what I always say. Basically, all of P's lineups were tight and funky. P's not going to get up on stage and his band isn't tight. That said, my fave lineup was 81-83...The Controversy/1999 tour lineup. Perfect mix of musicians for what P was doing at that time musically. Having BrownMark's thick tone on the bottom all the while slanging with the bass poppin' was a good combo with Dez's and P's guitars. And Matt and Lisa, to me, goes without saying were P's best folks on keys. I also dig P's lineup from 86 on the Hit and Run tour. They were hella tight as well. 87/88 with Sheila on the kit was cool although I was never crazy about Levi or Miko. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

i'm not trying 2 prove anything 2 anyone, everyone's opinion is there own and that's a good thing. i'm not trying 2 point out which band was better, tho i'm enjoying thus far hearing those that go in 2 detail on y they prefer a certain band 2 another. tho i will say that the jam of the year band wasn't as tight due 2 a LOT of miscues in that band. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I would have to say The SOTT/Lovesexy band was his best.
I also dig The NPG 1993-1996 Can't forget the ONA/Musicology band from 2002-2004 I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

With Prince being the musician that he is, he only works with the top and the best in the business, so they were all tight. With that being said, I love the line up with Renato, Rhonda, John Blackwell, Boyer and Chance Howard.

Since most of his bands are tight (the latest band not included), the optimum word is then "funkiest."
I say the line up just prior to the original Revolution: Dez, Andre, Fink, Lisa, Bobby, and Prince, followed closely by the original Revolution (same line-up except with BrownMark instead of 'Dre). Revolution clarification edit [Edited 8/27/08 14:04pm]

love4 and graycap, the 90's are over babies, lets let it go, it's almost 20 years now, let it go, if everybody says the 90's sucked, and you two are the only holdouts, maybe its time to start reconsidering the meaning of your lives

to me, also the SOTT and Lovesexy bands. Prince was
damn proud of them...I remember in 88, he was saying something like: "i have the funkiest band in show business." then again, during the ONA groove, he also appeared pretty happy...but, Levi on Bass, Sheila on drums, Maceo, Dr.Fink (the old friend) were the bomb. in fact, Sheila showed the world what Sistas could also do on the drums Snare drum pound on the 2 & 4

and just how am i holding on2 the 90's? i wish u would tell those that hold the 80's in their minds the same thing i live in present as well, having a thread about who people think is his tighest band isn't holding on2 anything. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I do miss the Doctor
I'm not sure about the 'tightness' of the bands, because i haven't actually seen him live. I've seen footage, but i think you need to be there to really judge something like this. i will say that I'm not a fan of the guy he has had on keyboards of late, but that's me
