The 1980's truly was a "magical time"

And PRINCE was a huge part of the 80's vibe. And you can't imagine how great it was unless you were really and truly "there". People gave a damn about the way they dressed. There really and truly was an "era of good feeling", people felt good about their country. And even if you weren't rich, you could dress up in some great duds from Chess or Merro Go Round and FEEL like you was. The video games was great, and the music... while at times "cheesy" always made you feel good. Molly Ringwold was still hot. Rap was non-violent and positive. Life was GOOD.

You know how people talk about the 50's as being such a great time to be alive. Well the 80's was like that.

The 90's was all plastic and cold.

The time we are living in RIGHT NOW is the best of all times though.

I agree with everything you said until you mentioned the present. This decade is when America devolved in every shape ,form, and fashion. There has never been a worse time in regards to music in modern American history.

When disco was king we had waiting in the wings Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna. Who is out there now ?

T.I. ?
Lil Wayne?

Give me a fucking break.

I love 80's prince best as well. A early part of my childhood taught me that mj, madonna and prince were the 3 huge ones and for that I will always appreciate prince.

Ah yes! I loved the 80's! Music wise, now, though, truly sucks, because almost everything is made on an MPC2000 beat machine. Songs are now uninspired and dull (i.e. Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus), and there is a lack of originality. I miss the 80's vibe. And, I think that Prince was at the top of his game back then, as well.

I still have a black and lavendar striped outfit from Merry-go-round...I never wore it...at least I think I do...It was still in the Merry-go-round bag the last time I saw it. I think I thought I was gonna wear it dancing...until I really looked at it...and I thought..well, it better be pajamas' or I'll find some kind of trouble. cool

I never heard of Merry-go-round,the big labels to be wearing when I as in school in the 80's was GUESS,and ESPRIT,both of which I never wore (to expensive). I always wanted a Swatch watch as well, but I think it was more cause I wanted to be wearing what the "popular" kids were wearing, not the fact that I actually really wanted one. cool

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I agree. The 80's musta been something special. Produced such legends like Prince, madonna and MJ at their peaks. I think everything will come back full circle so that those that were influenced by the legends will know real music therefore make good music. Get influenced by 50 cent and you get so called artists like soulja boy or plies.
Not knocking other artists from the 90's and now the 21st century because there are still great singers/rappers out now.

Great thread guys, the 80's were the best, i was a teen in the late 80's, the ra ra skirts, leg warmers etc, i remember going through 2 cans of hairspray a week to have that 80's big hair, oh happy days, and of course we had prince pelting out hit after hit, fab times as a prince fan....

Yes! The UK in the 80's was the coolest place on the planet! Everyone was 'something', had some kind of 'look' and like someone else said, we really cared about our 'image' and music - and we had Purple Rain wink it was great!! No one was too scared to be different, in fact the more different the better. It was fun and exciting, and you could be as expressive as you wanted to be biggrin

I remember reading back in the day (80's) in some teen magazine,
Madonna saying something about Prince always smelling like Lavender.

At the time they seemed shit compared to the 70's...But looking back they were good times...It was a time where you could wear anything and be somewhat cool or at least we think we did..No real designer clothes just individual expression
