The Minneapolis Sound Anyone remember seeing a PBS special back around '87 entitled The Minneapolis Sound? It was a special on all the great bands and artists from MPLS at the time (Prince, The Time, The Replacements, Husker Du, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, etc). One thing I remember from that show was Jimmy Jam talking about when Prince was still in high school he could play a note perfect version of the guitar solo on Chicago's song "Make Me Smile". Funny to think of Prince playing along to a Chicago song. I also remember they had an interview with Morris Day where he talked about first being inspired by The Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". I'm not making this up. I thought that was pretty funny.
I used to have this show on tape but lost track of it years ago. the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

I have it on videotape somewhere. I've been meaning to transfer all that stuff over to DVD at some point. I hope it's still in good condition.

yes i have it and i remember that part about jimmy jam ...or how alexander nevermind was commenting about how certain bands didn't have the chillisauce lol man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
