The song..."Fury"

The song ..."Fury"

These words honestly esape me...and I'm being serious...I am not furious in any way...I promise you...I'm not playing some hip to the jive secret talk that y'all think goes over people's heads...

Anyway...What in the heck does Prince mean...in any of it? I love the song and I sing along just the same...

basically some girl that thinks she's a Queen is mad becase Her King is keeping her on the street instead of telling Prince that He is her glory...although He doesn't answer the phone...If There ain't no fury like a woman scorned, if I am furious at all it is because I sing the song like I know what the hell I am talking about. cool

U must have heard it on the news this morning
Congratulations! A new star is born
Sun 2 a shadow, rose 2 a thorn
There ain't no fury like a woman scorned

Y'all must have dug it, when u did your thang
It's like a song, everybody wanna sang
When the music's over, ur ears ring
With a voice that's saying, "Queen got no King!"

He got a message saying, u tried 2 reach him on the phone
He didn't wanna answer cuz he's so afraid
U'd probably tell him just 2 leave u alone

U must have heard he got another band
They're makin' money, they're makin' plans
U feel left out, but u need 2 understand
Word on the street - he's still ur man
(he's still ur man)

Look out, here comes ur rainy day
Now u think you got a good reason 2 say
Everything that's in ur heart, come what may
Even though his might get broken

Who's the guilty one when there ain't no judge or jury?
Shadow 2 the sun, next 2 the one
Hell ain't got no fury

It will approach us, the debt he's been in
Open to the heart in need of mending
Will this song have a happy ending?
Only the woman knows, only she knows

2 sides 2 every story
One man's gloom is another man's glory
Sun 2 a shadow, rose 2 a thorn
Ain't no fury like a woman scorned
Ain't no fury like a woman scorned
No fury like a woman scorned

I think that pplrain explained some of it...

pplrain said:
" fury for example... , he tells you exactly why his marriage to Mani failed."

"Mani at one point in her marriage started to communicate via fax to CJ and it angered Prince who considers CJ his enemy. He also felt Mani was trying to gain some exposure for her non-profit work and wanted to be a "star". There can't be two stars in a Prince marriage."

Don't know how true it is, but, sounds plausible. shrug

I take what people say with a grain of salt...I really don't know anything about the women in Prince's life...besides me...and Prince must not be threatened because I do not want to be a star...

I have told him time and time again...that all I want to do is be a runner.. or a driver...and stand at the console during the show pretending I am a big shot. I however, am the one willing to do the work...and...

Have the experience as well.... cool

Thank You for posting the lyrics Wildgoldenhoney...Thank You...can I call you Wildgolden? or just Wild? Is that okay?

Always thought it was about a couple -- woman finds out man has outside interests that don't include her (could be another woman, could be social circle, work, etc.). He's making plans/deals that don't necessarily include her or take her feelings into account.

She finds out or recognizes that she's not 100% in the picture and gets mad -furious. She confronts him and tells him its over -- she's tired of being 2nd, 3rd, etc., especially since she's considered him her "King" she contemplates kicking him to the curb.

There's a third person, the narrarator, he's watching and commenting "will the story have a happy ending".

Like most of P.'s songs, it has multiple meanings, but the main thesis (in a nutshell) is:

It's being sung to his woman who over-reacted to rumors he was messin around. To get back at him, she has an affair out of jealousy and her inability to handle his R&R lifestyle. She also never took the time to get all the facts first, but now the damage is done and he is movin on.

I don't get all up in P's personal biz like some people do, but I do think that many of his songs have always been semi-autobiographic (if not completely) on some levels. I even remember someone saying that one time in an interview (I think it was on "Prince of Paisley Park"). At the very least they seem "inspired by true events."

Anyway, when I first heard the "3121" album it was before I knew that he and Mani were on the outs. However, when I listened to the lyrcis of "Love" and "Fury" I thought something was wrong, so when I later learned of the divorce I was not surprised.

See what I mean by Prince having to marry a friend? A friend gives Prince freedom...knowing right away...She better find something else to do...and wait until he's ready for a love making break...Everybody knows by now that Prince is a workaholic...bless his heart... cool

I think y'all get mixed when you think of Prince's releases on a linear time table. This could have been written years ago and shelved. He has thousands and thousands of sons.. quite a few of which I bet he uses as ways to get past something.

This being sad... when I listened to it... I immediately thought Lisa, Wendy and Susannah and the break up of the Revolution. He certainly was makin' new plans them days, and had a new band (of which he has had several) and the lead up of the destruction of the band was well documented as a concern that Prince was going in a new direction favoring a FUNK Review.

The whole song smacks of a time when Prince was heavily influenced by W and L but wanted to go along another path. I am sure he was saddened that he had to cut loose but he felt both he and they would find new experiences and sucesses apart. Its okay he's still yo man.

Prince Often just writes a brilliant song that is catchy, poppy and yet has no connection with what the normal person experiences day to day. I was always frustrated by song like "the One" and "u r my sunshine" as they could have been more accessible lyrically with a few changes.

I agree...It is that famous cliche...that has landed in the laps of men for years...Prince did a great job with it...

I love the line..."Who's the guilty one when there ain't no judge or jury."
Prince sounds like the innocent one...with the way he is kind of laughing.

Like I said before... another multiple meaning song. The dude is just too good.
