Jahova's Witness? Where did the rumour about Prince being a Jahova's Witness originate? | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Probably from someone who saw him handing out watchtowers
down at Bryerly's in Minneapolis... Or maybe from someone he talked to when he gave a copy of the "knowledge" book to him at the ONA concert. Or maybe someone who saw him when he visited watchtower headquarters in Brooklyn. Or maybe when he spoke about the "truth" and his "brothers and sisters" on that award show when he talked about "stauros"(I know that's when I knew he was associating with them). Or maybe the attendant who seated him at the Jehovah's Witness convention in Minneapolis started it. So...how's everybody doing? | |

Maybe we will know for sure when he releases his remake of 'All along the watchtower'. ....................... | |

I would love to hear Prince do 'All Along the Watchtower'
What a great song! I think Prince made the comment that it was his favorite Hendrix song. At the DC show this year, which was on Easter, the time I believe when Whitnesses recieve communion,at the soundcheck Prince made the comment,"Sorry I'm late I've been to the Kingdom Hall. Another one of Genuis Larry's influence. Pray for Prince, he needs it. | |

Just tome some time and went through the Rainbow Children lyrics and at the same time browsed www.watchtower.org and well...
It looks like he is destined in a direction I cant follow him anymore. Black and white is not enough for me. I enjoy the grey and all colours in between. However I've been into his music for too long not to invest a little more time diggin what he is up. Id appreciate any hint in this direction from you. Maybe theres an old thread that could help me further. ....................... | |

I think the rumor probably started with him saying that Gods name is Jehova and we should all read the New Translation. . . Doves, Mel!ssa | |

The Rainbow Children contains many lyrics that are direct references to the faith of Jehovah's Witnesses.
On stage in London about a month ago on the Friday night he mentioned the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures. He stated that he reads that version because it has 'God's name' (i.e Jehovah). He added that he studies the scriptures and that every day should be spent getting closer to God. In addition to this you can add practically all the evidence listed above, particularly that which SensualMelody has stated. For the record, I do not find any of these changes 'negative' or 'worrying'. Prince has returned to peak form both live and on record. He also looks happier than ever. To deny Prince's association with the Jehovah's Witnesses is to deny the obvious. We should be happy to respect another mans decisions about how he wishes to live his life and how he choses to conduct a relationship with God. Jehovah's Witnesses are not a cult, but are a worldwide Christian Congregation numbering in excess of 6 million members. They use the Bible as their authority and they use the scriptures as the basis for both their beliefs and their way of life. As they follow the scriptures closely and accurately, they do not adhere to teachings and traditions of men and this is what separates them from other religious denominations. | |

Prince seems to get some of the picture of whats going on with the New World Order agenda but this religious crap is just garbage. Women being subjective to men... Come on! It was such a trurn off to hear him preaching during the ONA tour especially after paying that big corporate money to see him. Hopefully he will really see the light someday. | |

That is being very harsh of oyu guys i saw him onstage and what he said was really open minded... He may be jeovah's witness but surely it is to be taken into his search for spiritual perfection... You have to see this symbolically also... "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always" | |

Funny thing is that God's name is not Jehovah...that's Christ's name. http://www.facebook.com/p...935246593a

In the Old Testament it does state that Gods name is "Jehova". Christs name is Jesus. Jesus the Christ. To get back to the topic, the NPG website stated that Prince was studying with the Jehova Witness'. | |

it seems sad to me that when Prince was elusive about his beliefs in Christianity, people loved his spiritual side and now that he has made it pretty clear what he believes peeps are ready to dismiss him. The musicianship is still the same, if not better...the overall message is still the same, if not more focused...what is the problem? People on the org are always knocking these other so called artists because they have nothing to say (politically, spiritually, or otherwise), but Prince does and then he gets knocked...oh well, i guess it just goes back to the old "you can please some of the people all of the time..." motto. and by the way...how many of the peeps whinging about JWs really know anything about them...besides what the stereotypes and falsehoods have taught you? | |

God's personal name in the scriptures is Jehovah (or Yaweh). Jesus is the Christ. In modern bible translations the personal name Jehovah has been removed and replaced with titles such as LORD. That is why titles such as lord appear in capitals. It is because they are a subsitution. The divine name was removed originally by the Jewish people for superstitous reasons. They believed God was to great to have his personal name spoken by mankind. There are other translations apart from the NWT that feature the name Jehovah and the New King James version uses the divine name 3 times. You may have noticed it used in the Pslams. Such scriptures clearly refer to God, not Jesus. In addition God's personal name can be found in a variety of other religious writings, churches and artifacts. I have recently studied 15th century Renaissance and Reformation literature as part of my English Degree course and Jehovah is frequently mentioned within those writings as God's name. Evidence indicates that it is only in recent times that the name has dropped out of common usage. | |

As Prince said when performing 1+1+1 is three, Don't get it twisted...for a woman to do her part, a man has to his part. Personally I like a man who is willing to be responsible for the well-being of his wife and family. He loves and cherishes his wife and treats her tenderly. He makes sure she has what she needs to be happy. He considers her preferences. He puts her happiness ahead of his own. Of course she respects such a man. This is the theocratic order Prince talks about. The woman mentioned in Muse to the Pharoah is one who adheres to Plasms 31:10 which describes the capable wife. She is certainly not second-class, but an intelligent industrious woman. "Don't get it twisted."...Prince *and what is this light that you hope he will really see one day? So...how's everybody doing? | |

Every bit of this really happened. Prince is over 40. He has lived what many people only dream. I wouldn't worry about him. He's been there, done that..so it is not like someone who has not experienced life. Besides, worrying changes nothing. So...how's everybody doing? | |

MR.7,When Mani and Larry and the Jehovah Whitnesses make him choose between his career and them and if he is ever seriously injured and needs a blood transfusion and will die instead that will be a very sad time.
It is a good thing when he talks about the bible and Jesus, I really like this, but when he pushes the one religion, that is when it is bad. Why does he live in Toronto now, instead of MN? Why doesn't he give jams anymore? Why did he tour 3 continents? Is it his last? There are 6 billion people in the world, but according to this religion you have to be either dead or a Jehovah whitness to have a chance at salvation. This religion came to be in the late 1800"s, when did God come down to earth and make this the true religion for everybody? What about the other christians that arenot Jehovah Whitneses? They must think that God is a shallow god. I'll never understand why someone that can create such beautiful music and lyrics can not be smart enough to see that this isnot the true anything. Who on this site, that has ever seen Larry, the one that talked Prince into this, thinks that he has all the answers? I would never listen to Larry Graham about anything. Eternity with Larry Graham? | |

I Agree entirely Mr.7, unfortunatley there are those who want to keep the negativity going on about us, with no let up. It's a shame, Satan has the minds of many unbelievers so blinded. Ha! And a lot of people think we are blind!? Give me a break! 2 Cor. 4:4 | |

I think some people's supposition are going to far... Larry Graham is makingmusic for a long time now, nobody asked him to stop why would it be the case for Prince... Come on breath a little a get a life on your own... "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always" | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
And by the way, if Prince gave a book to someone maybe that's because this person takled to him about those personnal things and decided to hand him the book to deepen his intertest in the conversation or this spiritual belief... "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always" | |

I just received a handout from a Jehovah Witness a couple of days ago. I don't usually read them, but I was curious as to what P sees in this religion. It was about Hell and basically came down to--there ain't no Hell where sinners are punished for their sins.
As much as I love P, I couldn't help thinking that a religion with beliefs like this would be pretty appealing to someone who has lived a lifestyle like his. To each his own. It's none of my business what religion someone adheres to. I think that no matter what or who one follows doesn't matter as long as you believe in a higher power--keeping you in line as much as possible. And I don't want anyone preaching to me either, even in a song. | |

--- Making a comment about God is not a sermon. If I say go with God or go with Christ that is not preaching a sermon. I saw the ONA show and at no time did Prince preach. I have read the reviews of almost all the shows. No reports of a church service breaking out. Do us all a favor and try to know the difference between a sermon and kind comment. | |

JW r not a Christian organisation, they deny the deity of Christ so they cannot b called Christian. They do not follow the scriptures accuratley the very thing they r know 4 ie knocking on doors, is done in a bid 2 achieve a good work in order 2 progress 2 heaven. This is totally against scripture, arent all our good works like rags? The only way 2 enter heaven is 2 believe Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God and 2 accept that he died for us, no amount of good work can get u there! There r so many "holes" in the JWs doctrine that im really suprised people get involved in it, that sounds harsh but i dont mean 2 offend. I think Jw is very very far from the truth! | |
