In 1989,Prince was aggressively planning to devote himself to movies. He hired Albert Magnoli (a film director) as his manager and the two of them formed Paisley Park Films. They announced four movies that would be filmed...

"Graffiti Bridge"
"The Dawn"
"The Dark Side Of The Moon"
"The Robert Johnson Story"

Unfortunately,'Graffiti Bridge' flopped big time, effectively ending Prince's film career.Understandably,Hollywood wasn't interested in the other three projects.

Yeah I remember that at the time. Of course GB was supposed to star Kim Basinger and they co wrote the original treatmeant... all her ideas were pulled out after the split.

I remember prince saying something like "all I am doing is making a movie with other people's money... if it flops I can release it in Puerto Rico alone and double the investment."

But back to my Star is born Idea. I was dragged to Purple Rain in Dallas by a sexy little girl that had seen the movie 7 times already. I was a dancer at a club called "Trax" and she kept mentioning I had Prince's Body. And she wanted to dress me like him for the stage. Purple wear was not out yet! She attended the Dallas fashion institute that was in the same complex, European Crossroads, at the time so making the clothes would be no problem. I had his body Not his skin LOL.

Anyway off to the movie we went. I loved the movie... I was riveted and remember thinking as I was trying to fight off her handjob advances (playing hard to get) I was thinking... this movie is nothing but a Star Is Born Rip Off!! I was certain Prince was going to Off himself. It was kind of like a little neighborhood Star is born.... she rises... he falls.

Plus I was thinking.. if she makes me into Prince onstage... what was I going to do with all the Adam Ant clothes I had made for my sets.

Lawd.. so sexy!

My mother mentioned something funny... speaking of trying to be Prince and dress like Prince back in the day. I was like that sad Boy George character in Wedding Singer.

Our family's men always had this affliction.

I tried to be the Adam Ant guy and Prince because some girl said I had their bodies.

My dad bought white shoes in college because he went to North Texas State (now University of North Texas) right after Pat Boone left and made it big. Pat Boone wore white shoes.

My Grandfather tried to be like Rudy Vallee in the 1920s and wore that awful Mink Coat of whatever he wore and tried to sing like him.

I digress. Sorry. I can't believe now (owning a BBQ Business) that I ever had a 27 inch waist.

Yeah,Prince was talking alot of shit before Graffiti Bridge was released lol He was obviously pissed about all the negative rumors surrounding the movie.Insiders who had seen some early footage were saying it was horrible.Prince got all defensive and wanted to make it clear that his own money wasn't being wasted."I'm making a movie with someone else's money" he boldly pointed out lol

Regarding the Kim Basinger factor: I heard a rumor that Prince used Kim Basinger as a "bargaining tool".In late 1989,Warners were still hesitant about giving Prince the $7 million to make the film. When Prince mentioned that the red-hot Kim Basinger would be his co-star,they quickly became enthusiastic about the project,lol...The only problem was,Kim never had any intention of starring in the film.It was all just a ploy, and Warners fell into the trap.

Not sure if that's true, but I did hear it from an "insider" at the time.

I think he could be the next James Bond.

And if someone id going to play him in a movie, my vote is Kat Williams. He's about the right size.
Peace. Love. Prince

He could have made just as good a Joker in Batman as Jack Nicholson

What DO you mean? David Bowie was great in "Labyrinth." cool

No, Bowie was shit in Labyrinth. And he has been graceful enough to admit he was shit in it as well.

Ajizzle

I'd like to see a new Prince movie, but I doubt it'll happen. As a matter of fact, this is his first decade not making a film since the 1980s. sad
