Workin' up a Black Sweat. Workin' up a Black Sweat....
What a great song...I Love it... And ya know...If Prince's Love for God is White...and the Devil's deceit is what Prince wants to break off of the Love chain...I can believe that the Devil's been on the run...lookin' 4 a place to hide. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

In the African-American community "screamin like a white lady" is more a joke about us than white people. >It's a reference to old horror flicks where inevitably a monster would end up chasing a white lady; she would ALWAYS trip over a branch and fall. Rather than getting up and running, she would lie there and scream. >The joke is that African-American people would NEVER just lie there and scream -- we would get up run, pick up a rock or whatever else -- never just lie there and get eaten up or killed. lol makes me laugh just thinking abou it. Go rent The Monster from the Black Lagoon or something like that; you'll see what I mean. I don't think its a racial slur of any kind.

I never noticed racial overtones...do you mean because Prince says...You'll be screaming like a white lady?
That doesn't bother me...people calling other people colors or shades...what bothers me is when someone thinks that they had enough power to decide what color they are to decide to not like someone else for the color they didn't decide to be...ya got me? That's ignorance. I have exchanged words a few times with racial overtones...I have gotten irritated with the ignorance I have heard out of the mouths of both sides...however...I came up with a good one today... What do you call stupid white people? [N word snip - luv4u] ... "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I dont want to sound bitchy but imagine if someone sang "you ll be screaming like a black lady"? I looked at it like the working class is the "black" part, that oppression can create a "sweat" where trying to survive can seem like the only thing you can do and you get all tangled up in just geeting by that to me is the black sweat, the white lady part doesn't seem offensive at all to me though

I dont want to sound bitchy but imagine if someone sang "you ll be screaming like a black lady"? Dude, come on. He's black and he's working up a black sweat. You've gotta work really hard to get even the slightest bit offended by this. Really. It's silly. In answer to your second point, what about, say, Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" ("and the colored girls go...")?

If you go to da club on a Frday or Saturday night, especially around 12:30 a.m., you'll see what black sweat is all about. But CAUTION, don't stay until 2:00, 'cause its gonna be funky in there (and the lights come on). Ooops, TMI

Prince has been using racial over tones since day one.....
it's not new. He does it because it is controversal..... and he learned a long long time ago that we eat that sh!t up. And we do. We lap it like thirsty dogs. He can say something about white women and I find it erotic, cause I'd do a white woman. He can say something about black women and I find it erotic, cause I'd do a black woman. I'd also mount a hispanic chick, an asian chick, an alaskin chick, a Hawaiin chick, and if times get tough, a Chick fillet cashier chick. Heck man, lock me in a room with one of each and see if I don't die happy. Now.... I would suspect, that when a white woman hears Prince sing this stuff, she would say.... mmmmm, P likes white woman. When Prince sings about a black woman, they all go mmmmm, P likes black woman. All the women with shades in between know they are in the sack if he will hook the extremes. The main one NON mysterious aspect of P is he likes fine P)$$Y no matter what skin it is wrapped in. I'm good with that. We are all so full of

And Please, I'm tired of the false victimization, reverse-racism, angry white man, why can't we say this- arguments. I guess it's too complex of a concept to understand that a group of people subjected to 400 years of brutal slavery/racism/apartheid/oppression would have a unique outlet of self expression through humor. You know people are extra sensitive or have some strange motivations when they start calling Prince a black radical.

This thread had nothing to do with racism at first...but leave it up to the gallery to turn it into that...And then me...even trying to bother with an explanation...was worthless...
If any kind of a racial tone bothers you...you deal with it your way...I deal with it my way... Racism only bothers me...when it comes to defending the whole principle of it. What someone calls me...doesn't bother me... An Asian that I worked for used to call me Miss American Cornflakes....and one day at work he attempted to rape me....needless to say I won...and got away...I look back on that day...and I don't hate the guy...He was just being a jerk... When boiling down the concept of racism here, and I think I well defined what P means in his songs, is that he would do any race of woman, once again, I'm good with that.... but let's not turn that into political statements.
There are P songs that talk about racism in the light of political correctness. He usually talks about his personal feelings of being viewed, and he mentions this in a song with his words, as a [N word snip - luv4u] . I can't think of the song where he talks about being on a school bus in the 60's and being viewed that way... anyone remember? I've often wondered about that word, [N word snip - luv4u] . It has a sting to it without even having to know it's meaning. It's like its very invention came about by the genious of accident and discovery, and it carries the very weight of using words such as dumb ass, sorry shit, and the such. There has never been a white insult word that wieghs as heavily. Cracker has been used, so has honky, but let's be real, they just don't roll out of the mouth with the insulting flame that the word [N word snip - luv4u] does. As a matter of fact, you can call a white man a [N word snip - luv4u] and it will make him way angrier than calling him a cracker or honky. Strange word. But in the respect of P calling out white people on the floor or black sweat, go back to my previous post, I don't think we are talking about racial hate there. [Why get off topic and turn this thread into something racial? You want to discuss race, post over in P & R. - luv4u] We are all so full of

And I will say another thing so that I can complete the whole conversation that I had with a neighbor.
The fact that these historical arguments still exist is true...and when we are up against them...we handle them or avoid them in the most loving manner that we can. The last point that I made...is that we speak from a reference point of a life that we were exposed to. I don't have to explain the ignorance in racism to me....It is my Christian responsibility to teach God's love...when I see that a person is vacant of that Higher understanding...as Prince has done in a handful of songs. As we all have our reference point, and our opinion to match. Those of us that carry the intellect of equality...are the light in the dark places...because we have to be. Sadly...sometimes we have to stoop a little to get a point across... "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

This is a trend on the org. The war of words over race. Not for one moment did a pull out a race message in that song. There seems to be a lot of people that think if color is ever mentioned by anybody in any way, then there was something negative in there. I am terrible at guessing who the people are behind the words, but it seems to come from both black and white people. Why over analyze everything?
Why can't we just dance? Peace. Love. Prince

I love this song too. And it's fun to hear him perform it live. Love is Sexy. Loving the world’s people is the creator’s intention. Loving stronger idea’s for building a healthier society is the creator’s motivation. Loving your own life with imperfections driving you to perfect, is the creator’s inspiration. Loving someone’s spirit through sexual togetherness is a blessing for those that respect that union as sacred. Sexual attraction is only one element of “Sexy.” That, “Y” at the end of the word, “Sex.” begs to represent a never ending, as love represents an unsolved mystery. Loving a man I have only stood beside of one time has been a mystery to me, day and night since I was a young girl. Prince stood beside me, with his best friend between us, and said, “Thank you for the rose.” I don’t know what to call this love, other than the forever kind. This love is beyond a fan’s love for a musician. Although I have spent 30 years listening to Prince’s music, and watching his career from the sidelines, I have never desired to write a book about him, because all that I know is my love for him, even though writing is something I have done consistently. When Prince sings the words, “Every other page I am on.” My spirit nestles closer to his. When I was a young girl, and the “Prince,” album was released…I felt as if I had known Prince for centuries. A young girl’s perspective of love and sex goes through stages as she gets older. Thinking to yourself…”That boy is cute,” is on one side of a learning experience and losing your virginity is at the other end of love’s sexual curiosity. Once I was no longer curious about what sex was like to experience, lust had still not been born in my heart. Lust didn’t creep into my mind’s bedroom until I was nearly eighteen. Prince was beside me in my heart through these emotions. Love carries an array of emotions and I can say I have had every one of those possible, maybe even a couple that have never occurred to anyone else. I am amazed with the bouquet of feelings that I have carried for this sexy man named Prince. Whom I love. When Prince sang…”It’s gonna be lonely.” It has been. When Prince sang…”When you were mine.” The words haunted me. When Prince sang…”Private Joy,” If anybody asked me, I belonged to him. When Prince sang…”Little Red Corvette,” my heart raced. As I look back on listening then and listening still…It touches me deeply to hear…Prince sing the words: “Take me With You,” “She came in through the outdoor,” “You don’t have to be beautiful,” “Baby I just can’t stand to see you happy, and more than that I hate to see you sad,” “I’m gonna drive her to Tennessee,” “You’re such a prick tease,” “You like it in the dark, but I like a blue light.” “You left me in the dark,” “And at the top of the page he wrote…Shy.” “They spent their whole lives tryin’ to tell each other what time it was,” “Let’s close the shop and take a drive,” “When the lights go down and it’s just you two,” “Right back here in my arms,” “Oh I see this is what you wanted,” “How we gonna make it in this brave new world,” “This love has got to be crucial,” “Adam never left Eve.” “Lover, Trust,” “If she could be muse to the pharaoh,” “Two seven’s together,” “I’m just trying to get you satisfied,” And so beautiful Prince sings…”For what it’s worth, you’re somewhere here on earth.” After hearing all of these songs…and having an emotion paired with every line…I cannot describe the personal emotion that I get when I listen to “I’m Yours,” and I ponder on the “For You,” album’s release on my birth date. If I am the girl that Prince is amused with…I can know with certainty, that Love is immortal. I can tell the world that there is evidence of reincarnation, with joy in repetition. I can tell the world that Prince and I have loved each other for ages beyond this life span, and I can know that with absolute certainty that regardless of situation of life, or mountains difficult to move, that true love will find it’s own way down the winding road that leads to her door. And I can be certain that if I took my last breath today, that my heart would catch Prince on his last. In a private domain, where purple castles grow, and skin is all that separates one lover from another, I have stripped down to the emotional truth of two people sensually engaged in the idea of pleasing each other, and how It is a blessing like no other under Heaven. With God at the center of this prayer, some kinds of love are long lasting, yet not never ending…I pray for every man and every woman to find their perfect one.

My gosh! it's just A SONG. I am sure that their are some song that Prince writes with deeper meaning, because they are serious or something that he has dealt with or wonders about, but sometimes a song is just that words that sounded catchy together, and went with a great beat. He's working up a black sweat, seriously the first time I heard it I thought he was meaning "sexually" working up a sweat, but I don't think that when writing it he was ever thinking "Hmm..I wonder who I can piss off this time" or.Their are songs that are just made for fun,and that really have no meaning, they are for the listener to decide how it relates to them if at all.
