This is just further proof why we must be careful NOT to share stuff on here and if you really want to share links to where Prince stuff happens to be on the web through an orgnote, KNOW WHO YOU ARE DEALING WITH. For me, if I'm not sure of who the person is and I haven't seen that person on the boards regularly, then I'm not going to share info like that because of what happened. It's a sad state of affairs but it's the reality that we're in here in Purple World, for better or worse. This isn't going to be the last time that Prince's music creeps it's way onto the web but it won't be the last time that we have threads like this either. sad

I have gotten any number of notes orgnotes asking me where to find this or that. If the person sending it isn't known to me, I delete it without replying. shrug

i think i have just realised what this thread is about and i have to admit i am gutted that all the videos have gone (about 301 in less than 6 hours) but then all good things come to an end once people started posting the links on myspace in blogs etc its the end of it all

tbh i am really not that worried they are all still out there its just time to look a lil bit harder those who knew about it had a spoilt few weeks with so much to watch lol

DAMN! That's just wrong! But this happened B4. What leaves us comes back 2 us! Thank god people are driven and motivated. May the 301 return and quick!!

I know for a fact that P has his people spying here. I made a post a long time ago about a former band member. Next thing I know I was getting an email and call from that person about what I had posted. Word had gotten back that P didn't really care for that etc etc.

All that to say, watch yo back.

The good thing about it is he does read our reviews of his music.

Do you think that still applies when the material is not released (and probably never will be?)

I agree it is Prince's material but it seems an awful shame to me that he would not allow his fans to share recordings of aftershows for example. He is not going to release them as a DVD or CD you can buy, so he is not losing revenue. Yes his material is being exchanged without his consent and I can see why that annoys him, it probably would me.

He himself loves music so much I am surprised he does not understand why poeple want to listen to live music he has made or peformance he has done on TV especially as not everyone has the funds and means to see him live. If he was losing money I could understand it and back him 100% but if there is no loss of revenue I am a little uncertain about his motives.

Dear friends, just wanted to let all of you prince fans know please listen to what the moderator says on here about posting links.....I would go as far as to say if someone orgnotes you and ask where did you get something from please do not respond. Why you may ask? Well lets just say I discovered some precious gems and recieved some orgnotes...me wanting to share with my fellow fans(or so I thought) willingly gave the link. Now I am sad to say I have destroyed something that was good. Friends please be careful....you just never know who's lurking on here.

I PHUCKING KNEW IT! GOT AN ORGNOT MYSELF OR RATHER ONE OF THEM POPUPS ASKING ME FOR A PASSWORD TO A VALUABLE SITE. GLAD I DECLINED. THAT BASTARD NEED AN ASS WHUPIN'. spank

I don't know much about computers (am learning about the net slowly but eventually I'll get it all down) BUT for anyone to "ask for a password" somewhere is just plain wrong! That's just a common sense thing! Taboo

It might not be released now, but how can you know what he plans to release in th future. You can't know waht the financial effect will be... can you guarantee that if he did release something widely bootlegged that everyone is going going to purchase it and return the downloads/boots... Is that what happened with crystal ball or the black album?

When it involves a boot, it is still stealing....no different to downloading his albums or anything you can purchase legally..... The only difference is that we're being rude too.

I tried to justify it to myself this way as well... because, with his faith, it isn't likely that he is going to release DM, with him rubbing his guitar etc

I do kind of feel justified watching uploaded TV apearances... but I'm still not sure. I don't think I'm stealing from Prince, but I'm guessing I'm stealing from someone (the network?)

Sure its sad that the clips get taken down and that we have less P to brighten our days... but guys!!!

don't kid yourselves into thinking that what your doing is above board. It isn't! Downloading and uploading this stuff is illegal (at least it is where I'm from)

I'm not saying don't break the rules, but if your getting away with it, at least have the decency to feel a little bad about it

No, it is not. But if happen to record what I do and release it to a radio station for publicity and someone gets it and posts it on you tube or something I am not going to be mad. Why? Because I put it out there for everyone to hear in the first place.

He doesn't put anything on Youtube.com. (not to my knowledge).

Sometimes you have to watch the comparisons, and make sure that they match.

You need ask your Interent Provider, or Cable company for free service, and see what you get!

Pay the man for his work---if he is willing to release it!

You really need to read what I say clearly. What I stated was that if I record something and give it to a radio station to play and someone decides to make a copy and post it on one of those sites I wouldnt be upset.
Why? Because I would be seeking publicity anyway.

Here we go….This is a community of fans and friends. Why would someone snitch? There is a tread right now that someone admits to snitching on folks who try to sell stuff on eBay. If you don’t want to participate or are against it then don’t buy it or download it. Now could it be by chance that it got removed right after you told someone…maybe…Prince is fast at getting stuff takin' down. Maybe it was a snitch and if so…that is sad. As a community that loves P music we should be able to share things….keep an eye out…

My theory is that when all interest fades in a man that was once so great, he himself will be the one who posts his videos and music on those sites in hopes to recapture the interest of the fans that he has pushed away by his own actions. Oh yes one more thought. Me hearing those songs and seeing those videos only made me want to go out and purchase cds I may have not owned.
If he decided today to release a cd full of his unreleased songs I would be the ffirst one to go out and get me a copy. What I am saying is clearly this. The posting of those things was not taking anything away from Prince, but actuall enhancing not only what people think about him but also his pockets. That can't be a bad thing.

First of all let me start by saying that I havent stolen aything. If I am to return something that he thinks I have stolen from him then I wish he would return the money he stole from me when I purchased his last cd thinking that it would be good.
Secondly if this certain "author" had wrtitten something of such "importance"
how would I have gotten a chance to read it unless he/she had made it possible. For every action there is a reaction. For Prince making songs and then announcing to his fans that he has many hidden creations of course it is going to heighten peoples curosity.

As i read this, i am reminded, that we often get to read the private letters and diaries of important people and authors. They are usually dead at the time though.

Maybe if I pretend Prince is dead, i wont feel so bad... He's like 50 anyway.

CJ, my friend, if you have been strong enough not to have downloaded or got hold of Prince's bootleg songs or concert footage, i'm proud of you... I'm sorry that i misunderstood your post.

I wish I could have shown the stregnth of character that you have.

First, I just watched the clips... just the tv appearances, then the concerts... the bootlegged songs I kept away from for about three months. I wouldn't even listen to them (I thought it would be rude). they were the line i did not want to cross... but eventually I caved. You're right, he totally asked for it.

But CJ, there are a huge number of Prince fans who think they have every right to own unreleased songs and concert footage....(and this is what we're talking about for the most part).

Prince would call them 'so-called' fans.. I disagree. I believe that they have the best intentions, but that doesn't mean that their actions don't have negative consequences

There was a thread last week comparing Prince fans to crack heads, and threads like these support this view.

I'm a junky too, and i love my suppliers. I just think all the other junkies need to be honest with themselves and realise that there are negative consequences and they are being a little cheeky getting all indignant when they get cut off.

"Release it..oh Come on baby release it". You've got a lot of fans that would would love to download your unreleased music and video and would pay for it. We know you've also been generous over the years in donating to charities. Why not release it,we pay for it, and maybe we can help a brother or sister out with some of the profits going to some of those charities that are dear to you. Thanks for all the great music, shows and goodwill over the years.

I must admit that your posts leave me quite confused. But anyway what I had said was that I haven't "stolen" from him.Yes I like many other fans have probably done some things that he, you, and probably some others would not agree with. That does not make me a lesser fan than you. It is just that some love the man and his music so much that it is almost addictive and if given a taste, I for one will certainly go back for more. So dont call me and the others "crack heads" but you can call me a "purple head" cause I got hooked on his drug that "he" introduced to me in the eighties and I've been hooked ever since. And yes I am angry. I am mad because in one breath he may acknowledge that without the fans he is nothing, then in the next he turns around and hurts the very ones who help made him who he is.
