THIS WOMAN'S WORK!

OK, all you Prince brainboxes... did Prince write 'This Woman's Work' for Kate Bush or did he just love the song she wrote/produced?? Love Maxwells version. Has P ever recorded or performed it?? Answers on a postcard please.... biggrin

No he didn't write it, and he didn't have any input into it either.
It's 100% Kate.

Prince had nothing to do with This Woman's Work.

The song was written in 1987. Kate and Prince didn't meet until 1990.

I'm so glad they have worked together - albeit I don't think they've ever met in person, by all accounts they've just shipped tapes to each other.

Just wonder if they'd had a child, how talented would that kid be?? Insane.

They met in 1990 during P's Nude tour.

I'm sure I read (from Michael Koppelmann?) that Prince was disappointed with The Sensual World with the exception of This Woman's Work which he liked.

It didn't have any Prince input, and doesn't even vaguely sound like it does either.

I s'pose Kate's versions doesn't sound like P would have had any input, but Maxwell's unplugged version sure does have a P flavour, must b the falsetto... biggrin

IMO Maxwell's version is far better than Kate's.

Which one did you hear first?

And there will always be a hefty discussion between Kate and Max fans about which version is best.

And she was invited to an aftershow. I think somewhere in 94/95. It was one in London.

The Kate Bush influence on Prince stems from this album in 'Deeper Understanding'. This is about where she describes going to her computer like a friend. This is clearly a strong influence which Prince used in 'My Computer', and this is probably why he asked her to do vocals on his version.

The only song she did that was penned and duetted with Prince was 'Why Should I Love You?', a very Prince sounding track on 1993's The Red Shoes album, its a great song, almost sounds like it could have been taken off the Symbol album.

And I have to say 'The Sensual World' is such a great and dramatic song...if you haven't heard it go and listen to it!

What would you say to her, though? Something like;

"Jeez Kate, you got FAT."

???

The Sensual World is an amazing track.

Didn't like "Why Should I Love You" though, too over-produced for me and stood out like a sore thumb on The Red Shoes.

Its hardly A duet. Its a Prince mixed track with Prince and Lenny Henry lending some harmonies.
