My brother is SERIOUSLY into him. He's a giant MJ fan and I'm a giant Prince fan. We're gonna kill each other one day. (j/k. He doesn't even know that there's suppose to be some kind of rivalry)

I grew up listening to J5 and continued to follow Mike and somewhere along the way I stumbled accross a copy of Purple Rain in my parents vcr and I was blown away by this guy I saw on the screen...pretty much since then Ive always enjoyed both.

I started to like Michael back in the Jackson 5 days. In 1988 I took a guy I know to see him at Wembley.

The following month he took me to see Prince in the Lovesexy tour at Wembley - been hooked ever since.

Late 80's - early 90's was a fantastic era for MJ and Prince - both at their peak.

I think most Prince fans appreciate the talent of MJ. Both exceptional in their own fields

I also noticed that a lot of people here started off as die-hard Michael Jackson fans who then became die-hard Prince fans, including me. Some still are big MJ fans while others aren't fans anymore, while some are fans of both. It wild how that happened. One thing I miss about MJ that keeps me a die-hard Prince fan is that MJ isn't funky anymore. He used to be real funky back in the day but that funk started dying around the Bad album and was practically non-existant on the HIStory CD. If he can find his funk again, I'll lose my mind and I'll be a big MJ fan again.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "Off the Wall", only one side though. Then MJ put out PYT and I liked that one. I like "Bad" just because I did a fashion show to it and had to hear it 1000 times and walk to it. A little thriller and then going way back to the "Triumph" man did me and my girlfriend have a blast with "Can u Feel it" hitting everything we could find along with the beats in the song....what a blast!!!
after Thriller and if it weren't for the dance moves in the video I lost interest but had plenty to listen to if I wanted.
Something went wrong with him and like other well known people I've seen....well, family can be just as deceitful and look the other way when their paycheck is coming in.....When the paychecks stop...they walk and that's sad.
Even Prince had high hopes for MJ I feel when he told people to just leave him alone. He's very smart and will probably come up with something and amaze us (to that degree as I remember).

I know Prince hasn't had it easy. I don't know all that many of his songs. I don't even know if Prince and MJ are anywhere near the same catagory. I don't consider MJ's music as Funk in any way. Prince prides himself in his ability to "funkify" any song. I dig Prince. Though he'll never be the only music I listen to. Ya have to have something to compare him to. I'll never forget that King of Pop forum thread where a bunch of them were calling Prince a "weird" tranny who wears too much make-up. Yeah, because Michael Jackson is ever so normal and masculine Some of them are too dumb to realise what they're saying.

michael isnt the one who keeps rereleasing his old stuff,its his record company,you should listen to invincible again its still better then anything prince has come up with.its a pity at the time of its release he was having major record company problems,and they refused to promote his album and only let michael release 2 singles from the album,you rock my world and cry,mj had ideas for at least 5 more singles and videos he wanted released from the album,but couldnt do it.invincible is totally underatted purely cause of no promotion and only 2 videos

I absoltutely love both Prince and Michael Jackson, they are my favourte artists and always will be. I don't think you can compare either of them because they are both geniuses in their own right.

I was a huge fan of his thriller album back in 1982/83. I got the 1999 album as a present x-mas of 83. It was over once When Doves Cry came out and then i started lisetening 2 the 1999 album as well.

i'm not trying to get anyone riled up or anything, but in my own personal opinion, i think Prince is better than MJ at pretty much everything.
and i'm not just saying it because i'm a huge Prince fan, but i think that everyone can see that Prince's music is so much deeper than any of Mj's stuff. he can do so many different kinds of song and he has beautiful lyrics and so forth. obviously i am not a technical music genius but i just think he has the ability to capture peoples interest and (corny i know) imaginations so much more. he has liberated so many people and broke soooo many boundaries.
i think because of Prince's controversial stuff, he was ignored by quite a lot of people...i think his musical talents are/have been hugely underrated/ignored!

i know a lot of people say MJ is "a tortured genius" and stuff, but i've listened to loads of his music, and although obviously some of it is great, but none of it really takes me to the place that Prince's stuff takes me.

maybe this is just me, but it's just my opinion.

Still, it's funny Prince did an Eighties medley back in 1988 during the 'Lovesexy Tour' rehearsals and 'The way you make me feel' popped up! He made it sound really funny, it always cracks me up when I listen to it
