great songs ruined by...

Are there any songs that you think would be great if it weren't for...
For me 'Thunder' has great music but the lyrics are...well... a bit embarrassing.

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

The slowed down vioce over most of the "Rainbow Children" tracks, any song with Tony M. rapping on it, The "Gold Experience" tracks that have the computerized voice overs on them. Those things wreck some good songs. I get the reasons for it on the "Rainbow Children" and "Gold Experience" albums as they were concept albums, but have that crap as segues inbetween the songs.

Partyman could be one of his funkiest, if it werrent for the lazy drum-programing.

The Word. All is well until the hook. Completely decimated by the thick milkshake type conflagration of layer upon layer of vocals and synthesizers. Really, I seem to taste the song everytime I hear that part. Far too overwhelming.

does that include Tony M on sexy M.F. (that is him isn't it?), cause i love him on that track and wouldn't replace him with anyone else... not for all the tea in china. possibly my fav prince song of all time

What's My Name - I'd love to hear a version of that without the bloody car alarm sound chorus. It really dates and cheapens the song.

'The Truth'

For me this is one of the best songs he's done in the last decade or so, but about two thirds of the way through he ruins it all with that hideous screaming 'motherfuckin' piece of piiii-ieeeee'. Grrrrr...just let me get hold of the masters and I'll edit that crap out.

'Endorphinmachine'

Whilst I still love the version on TGE, the original one was much more stripped down, raw and guitar-led, and sounded a lot better for it. TGE is one of my favourite Prince albums, but the whole thing is just too over-produced.
