Who thought that Prince was a band name back in 1982?

I didn't know who Prince was yet in 1982. I was only 11 years old and just started getting in2 music. When i first heard the 1999 song i thought the name of the band was Prince. I didn't know that prince was around since 1978 at that point.I wish i was a fan from the very begining but 24 years isn't 2 shabby. What fans here originally thought that Prince was a band instead of an artist?

I thought Prince was the name of the band back in 1978. Like the band "Foxy". When "Soft and Wet" would come on the radio, I thought the band "Prince" was led by a white girl. That's how I thought Prince sounded on that song. I swore it was a white girl singing. I bought the 45 and it was a blank sleeve on the cover and I never listened to the b-side. It wasn't untill "I Wanna Be Your Lover" came out that I realised that Prince was a black girl!
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

We had a lot of records in the house and I was into liner notes for some reason. Probably because of trying to figure out Beatles songs origin.

I thought by Controversy that something was up and when Andre and Dez were dispatched and music kept progressing. Not to mention that both the TIME and Vanity 6 releases had Prince vocals and were similar.... the gig was up!

When I was little, I knew who Prince was. Like I knew him if I saw him on TV. When I was 5-6 years old, he was the mean looking, handsome light skinned man who wore the backless pants. But I always thought of him as a solo act. When I was younger, I never thought of Prince AND the Revolution or Prince AND the NPG. I thought he was solo. It was YEARS before I found he had a band.

I was so silly. giggle
