If i was your girlfriend

I love P for writing lyrics like this, he expresses how i allways feelt but didnt know.

Maybe thats the reason i havent got a girlfriend yet, cause im too "friendly" with them.

That is what the song is about...being a friend to your girlfriend...

If a girl was singing the song, "If I was your boyfriend," It would mean that she would not be passive, and she would think that was funny...especially if they were playing basketball. cool

Oh yeah.... i remember...

Rick James,

The coke-snorting, wife-beating rapist who had 2 'hits' in the early eighties and can be considered one of the most overrated artists in the funk-genre, what, in the whole history of popular music even.

biggrin

Only two hits? Yeah, maybe on the pop charts. Check your references again, he had a ton of hits on the R&B charts. You remember the R&B charts don't you? The charts that Prince himself started out on.

This is one of his greatest songs of his greatest album. Lyrically and musically divine... A song for the ages that no one could have expected or predicted. When that album was released there wasn't ANYTHING like it on the airwaves or on wax. The sexual juxtaposition alone makes this a Classic!
