Well, if nothing else this thread has taught me that he's saying "Four" ... all this time I thought he was saying "Floor".
The 1-2-3-CLAP (sound), 1-2-3-CLAP (sound) . . . makes even more sense now. Man, the 1999 album is brilliant, but not like I didn't know that before.

vainandy said: It was 1982. Look at how segregated radio was at that time. Black stations played funk, which was danceable, and white stations played pop/rock music and the only black artists they would play would be the ones that watered their music down and took a lot of the funk and danceability out of it. And as for the listeners, very few of either race ventured over to explore the "other" stations. Apparently, a lot of white people at that time didn't care to or want to dance, at least not in a very ass shakin' way. They seemed to prefer music that was only suitable for hopping around like rabbits and do the Carlton dance. Just look at the uproar and backlash they started against disco because the majority of the artists were black and "corrupting" the white people to be like blacks. This was also only one decade after segregation had ended. After disco, most white people stayed as far away from black music as possible. But what trips me out is how many white people my age who love Prince and claim to "know and love funk" but didn't even know who Prince was until "Little Red Corvette" when pop/rock radio picked him up. Doesn't sound like a true funk lover to me. . . [Edited 8/15/08 9:59am] Radio stations still have a "Type," for the most part...Be it oldies, or Classic Rock...Easy Listening...or Rhythm and Blues... Where your statement lacks strength is the fact that technology and age are a factor... A baby born in 1970..can'e even jump on a funk boat until they are at least 3 years old...and music listening is a time consuming endeavor. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

White kids: stay away from country music, and you should be alright. OR (i like country) just clap on every beat just to be safe... and then you'll have the added bonus of really strong hands (morris day- chilli sauce 'OMG it fits, you must have strong hands, and yet they're so soft') Perhaps...Gregory Hines in a pair of cowboy boots in Texas hasn't crossed anybodys mind. That's fun... (I was surprised at how few black people there were in the audience at the O2 last year though - on the nights I was there anyway (which was only 2, admittedly) - why is that?! Did anyone else notice that? Or was it just me? ) And, keeping on topic.... when he did DMSR one of the nights he said 'This is for ME'!

Ah, I dunno, i was at 9 nights and 6 aftershows, and you are actually right, there was a much higher following of white people, most of whom probably didnt even know who Prince is or was. However, the Prince fans i did meet, including a few orgers were all different, which was cool.
As for DMSR taking the piss out of white folk, it sure does, and is totally correct, for example, on the night of the 20th September show, I was on the floor, in front of the stage, and P had some funky beat going, but everyone was out beat, even though the twinz where trying their hardest to get the rythem right , even my brother was in the wrong tempo, as he was claping with the others. My vain attempts to correct him fell on deaf ears, as he was to focused on some cutie, who had never heard of Prince If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Hard core Fan to the core, I actually met him the first time, on the above mentioned night, at the aftershow, he was wearing this 3121 Jacket, and I was waiting for drinks at the counter, and I simply asked him, rudely probably, is THAT f*****g thing REAL,then all hell broke loose, the hardest "FAN" P conversation in my life started, was hilarious, my brother started texting me, to know where I was. Without Mentalist, I would have never been at the 21st aftershow, and that stunt he pulled off, with a few other orgers, was simply pure genius, there are many orgers here, who would never have seen that show without the help of Mentalist and his sister (babydome69) If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

It didn't bother me at 12 when I was a skinny white kid with glasses. I'm into the 2 and 4, but I think it's because I play drums. I can't dance, and I've always wondered why other drummers cant dance.
