Actually, I wouldn't have a problem with shit hop existing and being so boring. However, when I get a problem is when everything else is kept out and nothing else can come in because record labels and radio don't want anything in style that might be more expensive to make. I have no problem with living and let live but these corporations ain't letting anything that I like live. And when Andy don't have no entertainment, he becomes meaner than a rattlesnake. . . . Riverpoet31 said: what i was saying is because we blacks are still to this day (albiet in a more subtle but no less substantial way) enslaved, divided, brainwashed and murdered....it appears to be universally greenlighted when we discuss race in certain ways..
Is that because 'you' are 'black'? And another thing, sharply put (but with malice also...lol), people don't let themself enslave, divide or brainwash that easy, isnt it? Alltough i like your thought out reactions, i cant escape the feeling youre using some 'textbook' meme-like 'arguments' in this particular reaction. First, because i think it seems overwrought, like there is some deliberate plan among 'white people' to keep people of another race enslaved, divided or brainwashed. Sorry, but such an idea is nonsense. Secondly, because you don't seem to pay much attention to the possibilities and responbilities of the group who is, according to you, held down (as i said, not some 'masterplan' but for a large part 'perception'). Its the worn out excuse of people who are 'believing' too much in some kind of victim-role. Or maybe that victim-role even has some benefits, i mean, why would you otherwise lay it down as the essence of the position of 'black' people? Sorry, prejudices will probably always be existing, people will probably always keep the tendency to judge others who are 'different' then themselves or the 'group' they belong to. But that doesn't mean that, especially in these times, you should keep playing the victim-card. Nowadays you have the opportunities to start your own business, no matter what colour you are, nowadays you have the freedom to express yourself, and thats a colourblind 'gift', but most important, nowadays, you have the freedom to let go of certain selflimitating dogma's, to let go of some tiresome, worn out 'victimrole' that doesnt stroke at all with reality. Take those opportunities, or keep limitating yourself. Thats your own choice as an indivual, wether your black, white, brown, green, gay, lesbian, straight, thin, fat, handsome, ugly, introvert or extravert.... [Edited 8/15/08 11:49am] whoa, i just now saw this. (why didn't you just write a new post instead of editing? ) ok. i'll just say this last thing and leave it at that. not to fight, mind you, but to share. i could respond to every point you made and quiery you posed, but honestly, i know when a war is being waged within oneself. i refuse to be overthrown by my emotions. take that as you will. there are two things that play the biggest role in black/white relationships post "emancipation": black opression & white guilt niether people will know the other's pain, or understand exactly what it means to live life in the others skin [history attached] no matter how hard we try and pretend to. sucks, but it's nothin new if you ask me. to anybody else reading? sorry if i drug this thread down. and whether you guys can tell of not, i have nothing against white people. i just think humans (including me) are fucked in the head from jump. oh and Mrs Goodnight...why'd you erase your post? there was nothing wrong with what you said

When I went to Paisley Park for the first time in 1994 P was next to me and the DJ with a flashlight and just watching people dance. I swore to people that after seeing that white boy dance (that'd be me!) he decided to change his name to a symbol. He just couldnt dare have his good name associated with my "white" dancin'
p.s always loved that line in DMSR and P is right! On the 1 and 3! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Now, showing people where to clap on Delirious may have been a little more helpful. It's a hot mess watching folks sort that one out! Honey I'm Black but I start dancing like a white girl on Delirious, what's up with that song-? Me and Delores. [Edited 8/15/08 14:23pm]

[Edited 8/15/08 14:23pm] 80s music is notorious for messing with peoples' natural rhythm!! I was dancing at a club with a friend of mine, who is in his 40s, when a certain 80s pop tune came on he said, "hear this song? This is why white men my age can't dance!!!"

"all the white people clap your hands on the 4 now... 1 2 3 FOUR" anyone else hear this? With the exception of me and my fellow Prince fans, all white people lose any funkiness they may have had by the time they reach 30. There should be a law that says white women over the age of 30 are not allowed to try to get funky on the dance floor. This may be news to the non-Prince world, but doing the hand-jive DOES NOT qualify as funk. [Snip - luv4u]

I'm suprised that this thread took a serious turn
I think its cool that it did... I just thought that the song was pretty funny. I didn't think it was that obvious that he was being cheeky and I figure that there must have been plenty of clueless white kids getting all excited when he tells them to clap on the 4 and not realising that they are the butt of his joke... that would've been me anyway "look at me look at me.. i'm white and can Clap on the 4.. woohoo!!!!!" (now, if this had been a thread about nina simone... now there is a black artist who was a master of making white people uncomfortable at her concerts)

... but your right as far as 'i wanna be you're lover'... that wide legged march thing he has going on in his gold heels was pretty funny. I was pretty shocked to find out that there was a time when he looked somewhat unco... I thought it was cute though [Edited 8/16/08 3:01am]

proof that racism still exists in america. ----- Proof that white people do not have a sense of humor when the joke is on them. ----- He was focusing on the music in the early part of his carreer. Kind of hard to do a lot of dance moves with so many long guitar solos.

I realy don´t know what it is to have sense of rythym, and may be it´s different between persons, no matters colours or social condition, What I already know is enjoy about a kind of music or an special artist like Prince, I´m disabled woman and white but I guess I have the same right to be a good fan expressing my way or what I can Forever in my life...

I guess everyone on the org takes P's music as literal as possible. Like they are reading the scriptures! So with that being said, I think its terrible when that black man threw that whore into a dumpster!
Take it for what its worth people. It is art, its not always reality and the music business is a business. Don't even pretent you can get into the head of someone like Prince and know what he believes.

One time in 1982 while performing Sexuality Prince let the crowd sing along to the chorus line while the music/band stopped playing. When all a sudden (in a singing voice) Prince goes "White folks aint got no soul." Some people think I'm kinda cute
