Chaos and Disorder or New Power Soul? I've ragged on most of 90's Prince, but I sampled both of these albums awhile back and not sure which one to buy first if I find them cause they sounded better than I thought they would and I remember sort of liking New Power Soul when it was aired on BET, at least I think that was the name of the track. Which one is better and why? [Edited 8/14/08 15:45pm]

[Edited 8/14/08 15:45pm] New Power Soul, a more coherent work of R&B and funk. IMO, stronger, more melodic focused songs. Chaos, is fun, more rock and experimental but feels uncentered and eclectic. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

they both contain a few of his best songs from the 90s and a few of his worst
either disc is certainly worth having and includes songs i'm sure will end up being amongst your fav prince songs. they're too different in style to chose one above the other, really. it's like comparing 1999 to the rainbow children. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I guess that's why Prince is one of my favourite artists, being diverse like that. I don't like rainbow children though I really wanted to. [Edited 8/14/08 15:56pm]

I thought betcha by golly wow was nice, and the single after that Jam of the Year I think, but I'm not sure about the rest of the album though the song Emancipation sounded nice in the commercial back then, and my stupid teenage centered mj phase made me think he's copying him with 2 albums (3) and the title track sounded like HIStory....I kind of regret missing out back then cause of being so caught up. i think the bad stuff on C&D is at least weird and entertaining, or at least bordering on painfully campy.
whereas the bad stuff on NPS just hurts. it hurts bad, like heartburn or chafey pants. as an overall album, i prefer C&D because i like the angry, raucous energy of the whole thing, good and bad. though with NPS, you've got "come on", which is one of my top five favorite prince songs ever, and there are other gems like "the one", "wasted kisses" and "mad sex". when NPS is good, it's really good.
