Do u think Prince is a better live performer now or in the past?

Do u feel prince is still great in concert? I still think he is one of the greatestlive acts of all time. Prince doesn't have 2 do splits 2 justify how awesome he is on stage. It always comes down to his supreme musicanship, in the long run. What do u all think about this? razz

i think he's a better live musician now, but i think he was a better live performer in the past. this isn't to say that i don't think he's a good performer now, but some of the dew is off the vine, if ya catch my drift. which, hey, it happens to us all!

I get the feeling that he has dropped the schtick throughout the years.

I think he is at his best when he isn't following a script (PR tour).

As much as I love DM era, I think maybe he was at a performance peak in 1986 and last year. That 83 benefit concert also rocked

Love the schtick but he doesn't seem to need it anymore... so I'm actually putting in a vote for now

IMHO, he was more fun and spontaneous in the past. You NEVER knew what was going to happen.

Now, he is WONDERFUL eventhough he has taken a bit of the icing off the cake.

One thing that ALWAYS stuns me is watching performances from the past.

For example, I watched PR on I think VH1 recently and I'm looking at Prince and thinking, "He's like a completely different person."

Then my mind started wandering and I started thinking about how long I've watched him...fabulous years I must say...and how I looked 20 + years ago. I sure don't look the same either!!

lol

IMHO, Anx is right on differentiating Prince the musician and Prince the performer.

Old fogey rambling from the rocking chair is finished now....carry on.

I agree that he's a better musician now, but he was a better performer in the past.

i miss the synchronized pimp walks and the counting off ("23 times, yeah! GOODGAWD!!!"), and the nerdy-ass mime performances he used to do during the Parade tour. i realize he'd look dumb doing all that stuff now, but when i watch old concert footage i can't help but stifle a little sigh...

I respect Prince's age...There will always be the heart of a child inside the spirit of an adult...
It comes naturally to love someone on the rock they are on, that includes the stones they have passed over. And to clarify...these stones are not people... people come with you on your journey in life...These stones are intellectual places. cool

Wow. IMHO its not even close way better back then. Seeing that man dance on his piano and then jump off of it into a splitz. Now he just does one little dance then plays guitar most the time (which is still of course really amazing) but nothing is better then when he would break off them dance moves.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I agree with the smarter people in here and in the spirit of the actual question he was a better performer back then merely because his physical health allowed it.

Watch several performances where he does not pick up an instrument and see how he dances and grooves with the song. I always think he was on the same level with MJ before he ever picked up an instrument. Could have been a front man for a group even if he never played.

Was it Miles or George that said of him he is part bitch part pimp onstage!

Her has simply replaced one talent with more of another.

Now compare him to the 0 year olds out there.
