I would die for you - greatest Prince love song? VH1 says that "I Would Die For You", out of all the songs they had the opportunity to choose from is the best love song by Prince and ranks 47. I have to say it's a good choice, but not my first. Here's my love song Prince list:
*Adore - Duh! (I guess that song's just reserved for us Prince lovers and not the rest of the world) *The Beautiful Ones *Nothing Compares 2 U *The Most Beautiful Girl In The World These are just a few and yes I know they chose that song because the real message is about God - of course . I can't believe this was considered a Love song cause it isn't but I guess they took how it was portrayed in the movie. Well, definitely for Love songs The One, The Beautiful Ones, When 2 R In Love, The Greatest Romance, Slow Love,Adore,Scandalous,Insatiable, I Love U In Me, When We're Dancing Close and Slow, Do Me Baby, When U Were Mine, Here On Earth, Case Of U, just the whole ONA album,When Doves Cry. Prince is Very Romantic. | |

I think they wanted to include him on the list but had a hard time choosing something. If you watch the rest of the show, the songs are generally popular hits by the artists. The thing with Prince is that his best love songs generally aren't his biggest hits. Many of the songs you've mentioned are better love songs. But based on their criteria, I think the only ones that would stand a chance are 'Diamonds and Pearls', 'Beautiful Girl', 'Purple Rain', and maybe 'Arms of Orion'. | |

Prince once said in a rare interview that his ballads were always overlooked and I couldn't agree more. For one thing, truly soulful R&B ballads don't typically do well with mainstream artists anyway. No one can compare to the list of soul tingling ballads that Prince has shared with us over the years. I think I Would Die 4 U is simply beautiful. However, my favorites are:
Do Me Baby Adore Joy In Repetition The Question of You When 2 R N Love (come on - does it get any better than this?) One Kiss At A Time Power Fantastic Slow Love Let's Have A Baby I Love You N Me Scandalous Insatiable And God Created Woman How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore Forever In My Life (B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!!!) Geez, I could go on and on. I feel I Would Die 4 U is more of a spiritual song not a greatest love song for a couple. I watched the Vh1 special and Isaac Hayes said this song was about Prince's love for his God. Maybe the people that picked the list thought the song was more of a Romeo and Juliet type of song, and they missed the whole point to the song, but Issac filled the pickers into the meaning of it. I think they should of picked Beautiful Ones off the Purple Rain soundtrack now that song is more of a love song for a couple its about being in love dealing with hurt from the partner but then trying to make things work out in the relationship. In all honesty, and I know that other people are saying this as well, but I can't believe that "Adore" didn't make the greatest love songs list! I mean, lets be real. Has there been a better love song ever written? Sinead O'Connor's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" was up there, and that was cool, but "Adore" just shoulda been there.  The Mothership Connection...
