Did Prince Delve into Black Magic henceforth the Black album?

Prince was afraid to put this album out said his spirit told him not to release it. Did God tell Prince not to release the Black album? Why would such a Wonderful album be scrapped? What is your opinion? Was there drug use that altered his mind?

eek strictly a commercial decision. just like his name change back in 93. dont believe the hype. if he released the funk bible, he would have had all the hip hoppers against him.

I heard another story that he was pissed at Warners for concentrating on pressing Madonna's crappy 'you can dance' remix album over Black, and pulled it in a huff!

Yeah I heard that too-and that he'd had a dream where there was a field with the words GOD above it-so he decided to pull it cuz it was too dark. Then he goes and puts out the SUPER religious Lovesexy.

I actually don't see what the fuss is about the Black Album.

Maybe he pulled it because he didn't think it was that good.

Many of the unreleased songs that people get hold of are nothing special. That's often the reason songs aren't released. Because they're shit.

Seems to me like a lot of the time people make too much of the unreleased stuff. The released stuff is better.

But the unreleased stuff is "cool" and it makes me look cool through its inherent exclusivity.

Tom

I heard Hall & Oates and The Pointer Sisters used to dabble in Black Magic. I don't see Prince doing that though.

The Black Album is probabbly better off an underground phenomenon anyhow, it adds to the mystique of it all.

The real reason he didn't put it out was a bit more straightforward.

He didn't think it was good enough (sort of)
The Black Album was great while it was gonna be a secret side-project type thing (like the later NPG albums).

But when the news about the album leaked out, it became apparent that the record-buyers & critics were going to view it as his next 'proper' album. So Prince pulled it, because he didn't want it viewed as 'the follow up to Sign O' The Times'.

i don't think it's that straightforward Soulpower...i reckon there must be some kind of conspiracy theory behind it all... what do you think? smile it's all george bush's fault if you ask me!

Sounds credible to me. Case closed Mr Fishpaw.

It was said that the album was in response 2 all those who said Prince wasn't funky anymore. As 4 not releasing it, he supposedly had a bad trip on ecstacy and felt that if somthing were 2 happen 2 him, he didn't want the Black Album 2 be his last piece of work. He felt the album was a little 2 dark, 2 negative.
