The song, 'Mad' was released by Prince as a download on the official website as part of Year 1, NPGMC in February, 2001. http://www.dtt-lyrics.com...A-Z.html#M http://www.dtt-lyrics.com...1.html#mad . [Edited 8/7/08 14:05pm] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I was thinking about that not too long ago and I would like to know that too. But this is Prince we're talking about here. I'll probably be an old man with gray hair and a cane before The Dawn comes out. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Correct. In 1986, in 1994, in 1997. We never really saw THE DAWN. We saw all the pieces of it throughout the years.

Hmmmmm originally in 86, then in 97 - thats 11 years later!!! Hmmm, so if calculations are correct, 11 years after 97, is 2008, so maybe the Dawn isn't as dead as we think

The Dawn was just a concept Prince was enamoured of in the mid 80s and was about to put it on record several times (in fact: 1986-94-97). But never got around doing that. The Dawn, as my personal theory, symbolized Prince's independence from everything, it was his goal as a free man. The Dawn was the search for freedom.

Interesting - The Dawn : concept/project/album, whatever it was, may still carry the potential to live as a concept/project/album today - i guess we'll be left speculating as to its definition, and confirmation will only come via origination
For someone who only looks forward does have a habit ot revisiting old ground. That being said - the Dawn (which has been a common denominator throughout his career) could very possible appear as an album title in the future, its meaning will have undoubtedly changed Sophianestesia said: jstar69 said: Hmmmmm originally in 86, then in 97 - thats 11 years later!!! "I wrote a song for Dawn, "he says, alluding to the album that he has long talked about as his definitive statement. "It was so much better than what I'm doing now that I thought, 'I'm gonna have to wait to put this out'.

Rolling Stone 1996 well, no time like the present to dust off those tapes and put some of that stuff on a new album cuz god knows we're ready for prince to truly challenge us again with some weird ass songs. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

www.thedawn.com was at some time a prince website.
We had the song on the truth. We had the NPG operator on TGE. Wasn't Come or the Beautiful experience 'welcome to the dawn'. Anti-climax or not, I wish he'd reclaim the title.

I remmeber reading an interview with him back when Emacipation came out. He said that he had recorded teh best song of his career called Welcome 2 The Dawn but the world wasnt ready for it or the 4cd album that it came on.....please tell me that song on TheTruth isnt what he considers his best ever work
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well...on "The Truth" the song "Welcome 2 the Dawn (Acoustic)" is credited as being from the forthcoming album "The Dawn." And for years there has been talk about all the work he has done on the track "God Is Alive" and how almost everyone he's worked worth has a part here or there on it. I think it was at one time supposed to be the opening track, but we all know how quickly that can change. Plus, it sounds like a royalty nightmare waiting to happen...lol.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see it in some form eventually. [Edited 8/8/08 10:48am]

The acoustic album, which is fantastic, is called 'The Truth', and yes, there is a reference 2 a forthcoming album called 'The Dawn' within.
But ultimately, U just never know what Prince will title an album, so who knows about one called 'The Dawn'... U just never know. [Edited 8/8/08 11:07am] "He's a musician's musician..."

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Chris Rock asked him about Emancipation saying "Welcome to the dawn" and all the past albums saying "May U live 2 see the dawn."
CR: Is this the dawn? P: To me it is. May U live 2 see the dawn was basiclly saying GOD Bless you / May you make it through the night / May you see morning. The welcom to the dawn and this a the dawn is just a bunch of werid stuff he was talking during the name chang along with "Prince is dead." Let's go crazy was about GOD, I would Die 4 U was abaout GOD...He may be confussed but he loved GOD... Actually, what he said was "my own personal Dawn". The Dawn, as an album title, has an extremely long history. Several times Prince has planned to do an album with this title, ultimately to shelve it in favor of a different moniker. It first appeared in 1986, very briefly, as a possible Parade follow-up. At one point, many of the tracks that appeared on Come and The Gold Experience were intended for an double-album called The Dawn. In fact, Prince went back and forth with this idea for quite a while. Many of the outtakes from the Come album also feature the NPG Operator intros like those found on TGE. This was primarily due to it being intended as a concept album that would span two discs. For a couple of years, Prince would assemble the album configurations into a double-disc set, then turn around and split them into two individual albums. Somewhere on the Org, you can find a thread that details all of the long history of this project. In 1996, Prince was also planning on following up Emancipation with an album called The Dawn. The track "Welcome 2 the Dawn" was recorded in two versions, one acoustic and one "electric". Of course, the acoustic version was eventually released on The Truth album, while the other version remains in the vault. The album, was, you guessed it: shelved. Prince constantly loses interest in the projects he works on. He has creative ADHD. Being Prince, I wouldn't be surprised if this album title one day reappears. Crystal Ball and Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic were also album titles that had been shelved, only to be resurrected for another project down the road. Seeing as how he's already had plans to release discs with this title at least three times before, it wouldn't be shocking if he pulled it from the vault once again. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)
