Well, you can't give Prince credit for the lyrics. Props go to Joni Mitchell for that. And the song would be even better if he didn't skip the first couple of verses. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

A brilliant cover. His voice is incredible. Shows off his genius arrangement skills and turns a folk ballad into a gospel vocal showcase. He really knows how to deconstruct the core of any great song. I would love to hear him do a standards album (along with blues and acoustic jazz albums).

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I've only heard the ONA piano version.
Just curious, how many versions do exist; year, instrument, live/studie, etc. Does someone have that information? Seems relevant as this is not the first time I hear this song being praised on the org... I loooove the song too, one of my top favourites! ' [Edited 8/18/08 10:39am]

I like it, but don't love it. He mumbles half of it and drops several lines of lyric. I prefers Joni's. Christian Zombie Vampires

I always figured that Prince skips the first verse because it is too personal, and therefore should only be sung by Joni. It describes an interaction and moment in time that Prince wasn’t a party to. It would be like someone else singing Comeback. It just wouldn’t be right. I suspect that Prince is very sincere in what he sings, so skipping that first verse is appropriate.
