prince on his tours On which tour do you think Prince looked the happiest and most content in what he was doing at the time? For me, he seemed to really be in his element during the Parade tour, where he seemed to be broadening his musical horizons and moving away from being 'Mr Purple Rain'. I also heard that he was really happy and in the groove during a performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival (2003?). I would say he looked the most listless and uninspired towards the end of the PR tour where he seemed bored with the whole image and some of the songs and fairweather fans.

I think he was happy on most of his tours. Especially during the Lovesexy, Parade and Musicology tours. If you think about it, he was making CRAZY money and was being noticed for his genius. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Got to agree with Lovesexy tour, financially it wasn't a great success, in fact i believe he lost money on it but you could tell he was really digging the music he was playing at the time and when you had Sheila E and CAT around you why wouldn't you be happy!! The Lovesexy concert broadcast beats any official release hands down AND ON THE 7TH DAY OF THE 6TH MONTH..GOD CREATED FUNK!!!

I'm hoping that Prince is the happiest he can be under his responsible circumstances. I honestly believe that Prince looked very happy on "The Tonight Show." Prince just seemed happy to be doing something new...and sounding excellent...The whole performance was a colorful delivery...I believe that a night like that makes Prince a happy artist, and a happy man. I believe Prince's happiest years are yet to come. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I'll agree with Parade which is my favorite, but I think that Lovesexy in dortmund was his BEST Tour.
I don't think Prince has been happy in years, content maybe? But not happy. [Edited 8/10/08 11:44am]

Are you crazy? His entire religious phase came from discontent and anger and wanting something higher. The tour was a long thing that dragged on and had Prince jumping from woman to woman even more than usual. Both 1987 and 88 tours were amazing visually and musically; total trips, but Prince was no happy baby in that time.

And The tonight show around his musicology era..he looked so happy... it was a beautiful thing to see who wouldnt be happy that close 2 Cat and Sheila E. on a daily basis I thought it would have been the other way around. Seein Prince on a daily basis and doin what they were doin on the gif on stage would be like heaven 2 me

I would vote for Parade tour... listen to him on the San francisco '86 or first ave '86...
As for SOTT, a lot of the reports from people working with him at the time (see Per Nilsen's books) say he was very difficult to work with and in a bad mood during the SOTT tour... After only 2 months in Europe he didn't want to take it to America and apparently wanted to be done with the whole thing... the movie was a last minute thing to satisfy the American fans. I think (just guessing) that he was unhappy about having to edit the album down to two discs, and then it didn't get the response he wanted in the U.S., and add to that the recent breakup with Susannah and the Revolution... I don't think Prince was happy in '87, even if it didn't show onstage.

i would say ona tour because of the way he was able 2 stretch out musically and spirtuality
parade only cause he was able 2 go 2 europe and play what he wanted 2 without xpectations man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

He seemed happy during Musicology....Grammy's, Rolling Stone, Magazine covers, sold out tours (Staple Center 8x's)....He was happy I thought he seemed happy on musicology too, compared too 21 nites in London I saw quite a few of those shows and thought he looked bloody miserable, well he did on the ones i went to anyway.

Musicology! At this time it seems as if he was finally finding peace in his life, and getting to that point where music wasn't about being superior, being the best or proving something (to himself or others). With Musicology he took his musical skills back to the playground and played music for the sake of music. The music and his performance had a light touch to it, even though still damn funky!
On the video clips I have seen from previous tours he seems more aggresseive and strained in his expressions... And the 21 nights in London were really really good, however yet a bit too much performance and less playing for my taste (but I didn't go to the aftershows either )
