I was with some friends yesterday and one of them didn't actually ever see Raspberry Beret video before (he's in his early 20s). So we both noticed how the people dancing stand completely still when Prince is singing the verses. Kind of scary because their hands are on their sides like they are not human or something.

i just figured it was because everyone was doing a synchronized dance along with the song.

did you know pat smear from the germs/nirvana/foo fighters is in that video? it's true, he is.

I'm amazed at what scares some people. Were you smoking weed or something?

Yeah, I noticed this right away.. Never thought it was "scary"..but I can see why you would think so. Notice the band, their standing the same way...Like their under a spell. That plus P coughing in it...He was just fucking with ya'll. He said he wanted to do something that was "sick". Meaning something that nobody else would do or even think of. Plus he said that the cough was thrown in cuz he wanted people to think there was a hidden message in it. Again, it was just for fun, I think. This song was released when P was a bonafide star..I thinkhe was trying to keep his feet on the ground by showing a little sense of humour. Plus, he wanted to keep people guessing.

I met Pat Smear a few years ago. I asked him what was it like being in the video. He said P was strange and wouldn't talk to anyone (including the band) during the shoot. When the cameras weren't rolling he would leave the set.

He said a lot of people thought he (Pat) was a girl in that video. Nice guy and the complete opposite of the "girly" image he portrays in the media.

I'll get out "The Hits," video tonight and refresh myself with the video's...all I remember was thinking the video was really cute.

Could have been the blue/green screen filming and they were told to keep as still as possible.

I was shopping today and that song came on.(K & G mens) It sounded really wordy and smart compared to the stuff thats on the radio now, and it didn't sound that way when it came out. It was a narrative w/ the words well pronounced and only the chorus repeated. Then i got in the car and the radio brought it home.

I agree B. At that time after the "P.R." hype started to die down, all eyes were on him. Everyone's question back then was "Well what's he gonna do next?"
