PrintablePrince and Little Richard have a lot in common, falmboyant, creative, artistic and cinsumate entertainers. Also Richard shares Prince's vanity his mannerisms and over the top dress sense. And both are so far in the closet with their sexuality they are packing Christmas presents.
Richard has also hidden behind extreme Christianity, he went through at least two religious awakenings, yet its clearly obvious Richard is much gayer than Prince, Prince has married twice and had meaningful relationships with women, whereas Richard had a girlfriend in the 50s (From the Quasar of Rock, Little Richard, author ??? 1984), but he mostly used her to pick up men for bisexual romps. Richard was also in a simpsons episode, Homer "Purple Rain" Little Richard "Shaddup" Homer "Hey Marge, Michael Jackson told me to shut up", and he was given Homer a ring to renew vows, "Have one of mine Honey". The funniest though was in a Jimi Hendrix documentary from 1973 which had talking about Jimi when he was in the upsetters in 1964-65 "He used to love the way I wore those headbands and looked good on, stage, but he was into like BB King blues". Richard was also of an earlier generation, whereblacks were more marginalised and really his rock and roll hits would have been bigger if it wasn't for whites who tried to block their sales and people like Pat Boone covering them "He took the BLACK out of it" (Little Richard in 1995 documentary about the song "Tutti Frutti". I'm sure Prince is very aware of Little Richard and his style.
I have a track called "Free The Music", which I believe was some kind of promo remix (?) for the Exodus album - it's basically the beat from "Get Wild", with snippets of all the album tracks on top of it. This remix also features plenty of Little Richard samples - rare studio outtakes where you hear Richard instructing his musicians. Also, if I remember correctly, Richard is mentioned in the spoken introduction to "Jughead". | |
