Am I the only person on the Org. who finds it amusing when I see the Pissing Contests that occur over who has what bootlegs and who doesn't. Sure it doesn't always start out that way, usually it starts with someone posting an innocent thread like:

"I just heard 'Electric Intercourse'. What do you think of it?"

Then it turns to something like "Well have you heard...." or "That ones good but I like....." and my personal favorite "Well that is on 'The Work Vol 5.6' but the better version is on 'The Yellow Album 2.5 (The Remixes)'."

My question is does anybody really care? I love Prince just as much as anybody on this site and I try to get my hand on as much Prince "music" as I can. But I am not going to bend over backwards to find a track of Prince talking over a bowl of Rice Krispies, where all I hear is SNAP, CRACKLE, POP over a barely discernible beat.

So in the end my question becomes this: How many of you will be bumping Prince bootlegs at your Labor Day Barbecue?

couldnt agree more. i spent years collecting everything i could, and now when i think of the money i wasted it makes me cringe. i love the boots, dont get me wrong, but you can only take so many versions of the same material repackaged. older and wiser now, choose my purchases more carefully, and concentrate mostly on the live stuff now.

Bootlegs are kind of a private indulgence aren't they?

I don't play bootlegs when other people are listening.

Somehow the comment above made me remember that thread...

I don't actively search for bootlegs. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't because they (the actual physical CDs) are impossible to find in western Montana (at least, as far as I know ) As far as the internet goes, they are a hassle to track down as well (for me, anyway), not to mention that my burner drive has always been touch-and-go performance-wise.

So I prefer just sitting back and letting a few kind folks on this site e-mail me "surprises" every so often that I can add to my .mp3 player.
