I LOVE this song. One of my faves by Prince. I know a lot of people who likes P that doesn't like this cut. I was dating a girl who adored Prince and every time I played this song in my car, she would get upset. She would say shit like "This doesn't sound like something Prince would do..This is violent...Prince..he isn't violent." I was like "Prince is rough and he's crazy. This is a side of Prince too." But she didn't want to hear it. When the gunshots break out, she acted like P had kicked down her door and shit. She definately thought P was this lil' angel. Totally above doing a track like this. I was like "But Prince wrote this...THAT'S Prince talking!" So I put Annie Christian, Lady Cab Driver and Shockadelica right behind Bob George. "Get up, nasty bitch, Get up!" Then I would be like "See, THAT'S Prince".

Really dig this song. It's funny as hell. Not only that, it's just a cool ass song. I like whne he performed it on the Lovesexy tour in Germany also.

"I pay the rent in this ragedy mothafucka" cool
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Yeah, The concept: It's about P being this crazed thug who's paranoid to the 9th degree and who went off on his woman. The message: P was letting folks see a side of him that has always been there and what perhaps what he has seen around him from the street. The message is him displaying violence. It's not clear if he actually shoots his woman or if he just shoots in the house where they are. The circumstance: P's character in the song goes off and it perhaps has a violent end. For who? Who knows...It's gangsta though, that's for sure. Prince style.

I think the main thing about this song is, that at the time Nothing sounded anything like it, the sparse thuding of the drumbeat ( later used as part of an exrended remix version of Madonnas " Like a Prayer " and later the beat to her "Music" sounds very similar.
I think the point was, finding a funky beat and mocking gangsta rap, like in "dead on it" but a lot funkier.

Now it doesnt sound as revolutionary now, but its still funky and its still funny.

Thanks I get it now and I can see why you all liked it, its very unique and dark. I wasn't sure if it was Prince the voice seems like a big, thick, scary looking dude.

Those days... glory days. 'Bob George' is a great song and 'The Black Album' is underrated these days.
