he didn't write it for her, he wrote and recorded it in 1980 and met mica paris at the camdem aftershow in 88 and she recorded her own version. prince had also rerecorded it and that demo was leaked on some promo 12"s. mayte later rerecorded it on her album

Mica Paris's version was on the rare 'Stand for love' EP. Prince's version of 'If I love U 2night' recorded in 1987/88 is, according to me, the best one. And it remains unreleased.

And it remains unreleased. that's right, and on her second studio album contribution, released late 1990. i have an autographed copy. nelle hooper from soul 2 soul and wild bunch did remixes. there were 2 x 12"s and a cd single with different mixes, but of course prince had no involvement in her version, but his rerecorded vocal demo is on the rare stand for love promotional EP, which was supposedly a pressing error mayte also released it as a single, and there is a couple of cd singles with remixes, plus a promo 12" with some officially unreleased remixes [Edited 8/6/08 11:47am]

If I Love You Tonight is actually from 1979. Intended for the Rebels project. Lead vocals by Gayle Chapman. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Her 1988 hit "My One Temptation" definitely caught Prince's ear -- beautiful song.

First version ever. Nice song. The Rebels was indeed a great project, good rock songs. [Edited 8/7/08 1:03am]

See? I always thought the Prince/Mica connection was that song, My one Temptation. I had that cassette single and wore it out. Then years later I buy Prince's CD and hear God Created Woman... and it definitely sound like Mica's song.. especially the horn riff.
