Q about Purple Rain 25th dvd

Is the picture any better compared to the original DVD/VHS? I remember a lot of dark scenes (bedroom when parents are fighting). Is the picture any clearer...is it in HD?

I wasn't aware that there was a 25th anniversay dvd. I have the 20th anniversary and the quality on it is really nice.

No, I think the director said that there was some problem with the lighting of that scene? So, it's just like that I'm afraid!

Buy it. All the extras are great. Especially the MTV premiere. It's a great snapshot of the music scene of the time.

Picture quality is good. There are some glitches from the restoration process, however--most notably the lack of sound for a few seconds in the scene where Frances shoots himself. You don't hear the saftey click, for one thing.

What happened was the film of the scene where Prince is in the basement with his parents (or something) was damaged or detroyed by accident ( Al Magnoli said it was a director's worst nightmare) . So they had to use what they had for the film. It was dark and they couldn't fix it but they had no choice. On the disc, he talks about it. The scene where Prince goes, "Dad, please.." It does looks very noticeably dark.
