Exactly. The 'Purple Rain' tour ended shortly before 'ATWIAD' was released.A new tour so soon would have been overkill.

Ahh I see its a shame though I wonder what the tour would have been like really retro if it was anything like the album. cool

iirc, the purple rain tour ended soon after the ATWIAD album had been released
when he goes into the part about "this isn't just any kind of temptation, ppl"
i seriously thought he was going to perform "Temptation"
i think a lot of people did
i was surprised he didn't play any ATWIAD songs the whole tour (that i know of, anyway)
he at least could've done "She's Always In My Hair" eek

2 April 1985: Steve Fargnoli announces that "Prince is withdrawing from the live performance scene for an indefinite period of time. Prince's concert on April 7 at Miami's Orange Bowl will be his last performance for an inderterminate number of years. I asked Primce what he planned to do. He told me, "I'm going to look for the ladder". I asked him what this means. All he said was, "Sometimes it snows in April".

7 April: Final performance of the Purple Rain tour at the Orange Bowl.

22 April: Release of 'Around The World In A Day"

Info from Uptown's, 'The Vault'.

No - just a clever marketeer!

Make a business decision, wrap it up in mystique and sell it to the masses. The world's hottest live act at that time, coming off an album that was number 1 for months, then says he's "retiring" from live performance - that's exactly how to peak interest even when its already at it's highest level wink

He did quite a few ATWIAD songs at the "Parade" gigs.....Does an artist need to tour every album?

Maybe. But I like the fact Prince chose to perform songs from both albums (Around the world & Parade) into one tour (Parade Tour). Considering the work he had in his hands in 1986, it's a miracle he's still alive and healthy today!

several shows in 1985 included then new songs like raspberry beret and america were played during the shows and parts of the temptation speech
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

thx -- i remember radio playing quite a few songs ahead of time (raspberry, paisley, america, and around) but didn't know if he had played them live by that time

I always figured that he never toured ATWIAD because it was so soon after the Purple Rain tour and besides, he had already moved on to his next project which was keeping him too busy to tour; ie recording Parade & filming UTCM

A better question would be "Why did he follow Purple Rain with an album like Around The World In A Day?". He could have toured and might have had a pretty decent size crowd since he was still hot from the "Purple Rain" era. However, a lot of folks were pissed at him for making an album like "Around The World In A Day". At least they were here in the United States.

I love his crazy sexy cool persona. I think several folks may have suggested he seek therapy but his music is his therapy as well as his disease.

Does any one remember the ever so 'dull' performance of Head during the Parade Tour. Enough of that tame shit... Who wants some Head...Gimme more of that funky/dull stuff. Not to mention the performances of Anotherloverholenyohead and America.

It's also easy to suddenly become "artistic" right after you've just made millions on a hit selling album and movie. I wouldn't have been happy with it, but I would have seen it as more daring making an "artistic" album right after "Dirty Mind" or "Controversy". lol
