Mutiny and High Fashion don't really move me but 'Fashion' is ok.
But 'River Run Dry', 'Screams of Passion', Nothing Compares 2 U, and 'Desire', I would love to hear Prince do on an album. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Always feeling 'Nothing compares to U' when it comes to Prince because there's No One, no where, no how that could ever be better than PRINCE .
It's been more than 7 hours and 13 days, since U took U're away. Dr. says gotta have sum fun, real soon.

as High Fashion,Mutiny AND River run dry (one of my all time fav) 2 himself, because they were better than SOME of the songs on ATWIAD !! Love4oneanother

Can we replace Mutiny with Desire and make Mutiny a B-side? Add Paisley Park back in. While I'm at it, make America the B- side of Pop Life and put She's Always in My Hair after Pop Life. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I often wondered about that - but i feel the vibe of the songs is more geared towards parade - in fact High Fashion would have been perfectly suited to Under The Cherry moon. The Family project was clearly the some kind of bridge album for prince to move over to the more horn based sound he wanted to explore.
I always thought Manic Monday would have fit the ATWIAD album though. All the Family songs warranted more attention from prince (Didnt Bobby z write River runs Dry though?). Much as I love the family album, wouldnt it have been total killer if the album had included other '85 tracks given to Sheila, such as A Love Bizare, Sister Fate, Dear Michaelangelo. That wouldve been one helluva album.

I don't think any of The Family tracks would've worked on Around The World
In A Day at all. Musically, they've got a very different vibe from each other. They've got more in common with the Parade material. Adding them to ATWIAD would just ruin the album IMO. And yes, Prince didn't write "River Run Dry", Bobby Z did. [Edited 7/27/08 3:53am]

I always considered The Family a stepping stone from ATWIAD to Parade.

I'd take The family's version of NC2U over P's any day. Paul's vocal have so much ache in them and that's what makes it a great cut. nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

He definitely distances himself from sineads, but listen to the One Night Alone version of NC2U, its not too far from the arrangement of the Family's. Also the arranegement he performed on the nude tour had echoes of sineads version, in terms of vocal delivery, tempo etc. Ive only ever heard his demos for High Fashion, Mutiny & Desire. Ive heard a rehersal of Screams of passion, but nothing else. Do others exist?

I always considered The Family a stepping stone from ATWIAD to Parade. Interesting idea. Prince's creative method is to release his music before he fully develops the concept that he is processing. That's why I never agree with the fans who want to edit P because we would miss out on a lot of great material.

ATWIAD shoud have the Dance Electric extended version
Parade should b re-released with an additional disk - his vocals on the family tracks

The album would've been too long...Warner Brothers would've pitched a fit...and we'd never have gotten to hear any of it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

very true and how far left he went with ATWIAD is just brilliant in itself. the family album is the perfect set up 2 parade tho man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
