or are there even songs on 1999 you dont care for at all? FREE is absolutely abysmal. "International Lover" is pure filler. The rest of the album is great!!!!! That hurt me a little, man.

Shame they left that off... While I agree with you, it's become somewhat of a collector's item fetching a higher price. IIRC, the 10 track version of 1999 was not available in the states, it was only available as an import from Germany or Japan. Correct me if I'm wrong, but by the time it saw an official US release, it had all 11 tracks. I'd say, cause when I bought mine,it was an import, but it had a sticker on the outside that gave me the impression that it had a DVD with it,which is why I forked out the $20,but it was worth the money though. So it's actually become quite rare and collectable.

20 years! I must have been quite unlucky then, or lucky considering the colectability of it. I bought mine around about 1995 in the UK and it has no DMSR. Obviously I have the song now but I keep meaning to pick up a copy of the album with DMSR on it, I just never get around to it. I also still need a tracked version of Lovesexy. So it's actually become quite rare and collectable. RIP

Dig, Free is a wonderful song. One of my all time faves from Prince actually. And International Lover, which was originally written for The Time, is bangin' as well. Some of P's best vocals are on these two songs. He takes it to church and I love it when he used to jump gospel on folks! SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Except for the very end with his speech "Everything you've heard about me is true...." bit. I like that part. Otherwise, I'm not crazy about the music. Lady Cab Driver, Automatic, D.M.S.R, Free, International Lover, 1999 & All The Critics,...I've always dug. LRC, I like but I have to be in a certain mood to listen to that. Same with Something In The Water. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

According to my last.fm () 1999 is my fourth most played album.
I love every track, except for 'All The Critics..'. That should of been replaced with Extra Loveable.

He did a little bit of Free at the O2 last year, there's a clip floating around somewhere... it's really emotional, beautiful!

"All The Critics" is my least favorite track on that album, also ( although, I still find it listenable). And though it's not really his song, I would've liked to have heard Do Yourself A Favour on here. I think it's would've added a bit of light-heartedness to the album.

When I first listened to this album, I didn't get it
And I worked this one to the bone, though not quite as much as The Gold Experience. The only difference between the two is that TGE still gives me a bit of trouble on occasion where I'm just not feeling it. 1999 just wasn't what I expected it to be. I was expecting an 80's album with that retro sound, but there was so much more to the picture than I figured there'd be. I knew right away how I'd like certain songs (Automatic, International Lover) and other took me a while to get into (Lady Cab Driver and Free). D.M.S.R> came on mine and I really wasn't crazy about it. Took me a while to get into it at all. I feel like it makes the album a little too long and when a Prince album is too long, I somewhat lose interest. Or at least that used to be the problem. Previous to getting the album, I've heard 4 of the songs beforehand, most came with videos. 1999, Little Red Corvette, Let's Pretend We're Married... even Delirious sounded a bit familiar, but I had a longer version of it in my stash of outtakes. "(Does not Compute) Something in the Water" took me a while to get too, but I had another version of it in the same place as Delirious. It was the alternate version and I liked the sound of it better. I still do, actually. The funny thing about this album is that Prince's brilliance is shown clearly in it, but it shows the fact that he's not quite famous yet had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
